Apple Intelligence is kind of a special-case “line in the sand” issue. You can tell, because other than that, your iPhone 14 Pro will do everything an iPhone 16 Pro can do.

OTOH, buying a completely different product out of childish spite will leave you with not a *single one* of the Apple features. Be careful with those scissors — they’re awfully near your nose.

 Childish spite? Curb your Apple zeal I said I’m planning to try it at a store before I make my decision. Besides, it’s my money and I do understand my own needs. If I wanted to play games, use processor intensive tasks or even use AI on it it would’ve been a pretty obvious decision. 

I find it weird that none of the reviewers mentioned Smart Script. To me this is the keyboard killer feature, if it works like it should.

What on earth are you talking about? It's got the same processor as the iPhone 15 Pro, is 25-30% faster, will run Apple Intelligence, support for Pencil Pro, and double the storage. Plus TouchID and USB-C. It's a solid mini tablet. So what if it's not running Wifi 7? 

We don't know how long it will take for the A17 to become outdated in an iPad since the Air uses an M2. I for one was eagerly waiting for a new mini mainly because of SmartScript, but did not expect Apple to use an older gen iPhone processor, an M2 would've been ideal.
I'll try it at an Apple store but will likely end up with a reMarkable Pro this year.

The iPad and remarkable pro are completely different products. The A17 Pro likely completely wipes the floor with whatever CPU the remarkable is using, and basing your decision on the CPU alone seems pretty insane considering the other massive differences between the 2 products and their functionality.

I have ann IPP and my boss a remarkable and an IPP. The remarkable is a nice bit of kit and is very good for its dedicated purpose. but the IPP is much more versatile for a wider range of uses. My boss uses his for photography for example, whereas I use my IPP for nearly everything.  

This mini would not be as good as the remarkable for note taking, but it would still be pretty good. And can do a lot more.  I would regard it as the perfect device for a business to deploy at point of sales or taking menu orders etc. 

Agreed, thanks for that info. I owned a IPP for three years but my current need is only for note taking and portability which is why I like the mini. My wife has a mini and I really like using it and with SmartScript it would've be awesome! I am concerned that the processor won't be included in some future feature since Apple seems to cut them out of hardware versions relatively often.
The new reMarkable Pro has color and has considerably faster screen refresh rate than before. The other advantage is the ePaper that makes it easy on the eyes, lightweight and a battery that lasts 2 weeks. It's super easy to just turn it on, flip a page, and start taking notes.
