  • UK reconsidering USB-C charger mandate, after everyone else has already shifted

This is all well and good until something better is developed and all manufacturers are stuck using the old version because the EU mandated a specific connector. Can't wait until the rest of the world moves on to something better/faster/smaller/cheaper and the EU countries are stuck with this.
Exactly! USB-C was Apple's design solution for Intel which was slow to changing. But now that the EU has put a barrier to connector innovations, companies will be forced to focus on cordless everything which carries security concerns.

  • Cheaper Apple Vision headset rumored to cost $2000, arriving in 2026

Imagine if people had taken that position when the original Macintosh was released! It cost over $7,000 when corrected for inflation, and had a fraction of the capabilities of today's Macs: "Too expensive, display too small, black & white. Fail!" lol
The Mac did fail, Jobs got kicked out, and Apple continued to sell the previous model for an extra 9 (nine!) years to survive. The market share of Mac is stuck at 9% and is not even close to Apple II. AVP is no Mac. It is more like a Segway a product you don't need at a cost that only makes sense to a few people. Perhaps completely rebrand it as Beats Vision and sell it for $700 or bundle it with an Apple TV subscription.
The Mac did not fail, it was too new and people wanted the assurance that it was here to stay, also SJ did not get fired because the Mac failed. The disagreement was that SJ wanted Apple to invest their golden-egg in the Mac and drastically reduce investment in the Apple II series, which the board disagreed on because they saw the Apple II as their bread and butter. The falling out with Sculley was specifically on this point and he later admitted that SJ hired the wrong CEO.

  • New iPad mini 7 gets A17 Pro, Apple Intelligence

Thank you, Apple--I guess--for saving me money again with another mediocre upgrade. STILL with the dated looking fat bezels? A bump to the near useless 6E when Wifi 7 is already here and supported by Apple in other products? No landscape camera?
What on earth are you talking about? It's got the same processor as the iPhone 15 Pro, is 25-30% faster, will run Apple Intelligence, support for Pencil Pro, and double the storage. Plus TouchID and USB-C. It's a solid mini tablet. So what if it's not running Wifi 7?
We don't know how long it will take for the A17 to become outdated in an iPad since the Air uses an M2. I for one was eagerly waiting for a new mini mainly because of SmartScript, but did not expect Apple to use an older gen iPhone processor, an M2 would've been ideal.
I'll try it at an Apple store but will likely end up with a reMarkable Pro this year.

If Apple really wants to kill the AVP they would use lower res screens. The advantage of keeping EyeSight is you can leave them on during a quick chat like during a flight or if you decide to wear them at work, it's a strong distinguishing factor that no one else has.
To cut costs Apple will eventually integrate much of the existing tech into single components. The teardown of AVP showed the complexities of having multiple circuits connected with ribbon cables, a very complex product to manufacture and assemble.

  • New in iOS 18.1 developer beta 6: Control Center toggles, sleep apnea detection, more

You’re already using it, you just don’t know you’re using it. In 18 it’ll be more obvious, like when you write an angry email to your neighbors but can’t muster the calmness to tell them to stop their kids from stepping on your lawn.
