  • UK police shocked to discover taser disguised as iPhone

It does not deliver 650K volts, that's absurd. These voltage claims on tasers are of course false, for a device to reach such voltage you would first need a large coil, then your taser terminals would have to be much further apart, won't make for a great taser. If you do try to push such voltage between two taser terminals the discharge will start at the 50K volts mark anyway.

  • New 24-inch iMac in production testing, but won't ship until late 2023

Why do people still buy the iMac?
You can get a MBP, use whatever monitor you want and be able to take it wherever you want.
If you’re strapped to a desk you could just get a Mini or Studio and plug whatever monitor.
What’s the iMac appeal in this day and age, I honestly don’t see the benefits.

  • Apple working on how to read back iMessages in the sender's voice

This is so possible today. A friend of mine asked ChatGPT a question, he took the answer and uploaded a few samples of his voice to a different AI and then had it read the answer from ChatGPT with his own voice, and let me tell you... it was dead on, with all the quirks and nuances in his voice. Crazy stuff... So this patent is 100% plausible

  • Adobe's Figma buy blocked, until EU decides if it can proceed

Adobe Systems Incorporated, is an American multinational computer software company incorporated in Delaware[3]

Branch of FIGMA, INC. (Delaware (US))
    ———
Two American companies plan to merge and the EU gets involved. Can someone familiar with the relevant international laws explain what standing they have?
The distinguishing factor is "Multinational Company"
Adobe is well known for buying their competition, often deprecating software or putting it on life support. Adobe doesn't know how to be cool and trendy in a creative market.
CyberStudio, Dreamweaver, Flash, Freehand, PageMaker, FrameMaker, Behance etc. So customers are worried about Figma, and rightfully so

  • Apple considering 2025 debut of touchscreen MacBook Pro

    JP234 said:
I don't know why a laptop with a full sized keyboard and a touch sensitive trackpad would benefit from a touchscreen. The screens on my iPhone, iPad and car all get gross after one day of use. The MacBook Air stays clean, and only needs dusting every week or two.
Correct, users can perform any touch task with their massive touchpad and without having to move their entire arm to the screen. I wouldn't be surprised if the leak Bloomberg received is for a new type of device. 2025 sounds too long-term for simply adding a touch display into an OS that already knows touch.
