  • Using Apple CarPlay impairs driver reaction more than alcohol, study shows

In general I found touch screens to be a distraction because I have to lift my hand and point. I much prefer the rotary knob in my Audi A4 with CarPlay, because my hand rests in a natural position on the center console and I can just scroll left or right and click. Wish they hadn't bowed to pressure and switched to the touch screen in the 2020 refresh.

  • Third iOS 13.4 beta teases internet recovery mode for iPhone, iPad

Not all iPads have cellular wireless.  That means they don’t have SIMs to store connection data.

Would WiFi & cellular settings be stored outside of the OS?
I'm confused: why couldn't they just get the user to connect to a WiFi network manually (or use cellular if it's available) when performing a recovery?

EDIT: Or use a nearby device to get the WiFi settings, as Entropys says below
I’m assuming you’re using the recovery because the OS is non functional, maybe an update failed, FaceTime camera is damaged, or you’ve forgotten your password.  Whatever it is, you need Internet access before loading the OS to initiate the recovery.  That means the wireless connection needs to be stored outside of the OS.

Currently, to perform a recovery you download the latest iOS within iTunes, put your device in recovery mode, then the OS is pushed to the phone.  There’s no internet connection on the phone until the OS is reloaded.
Have you ever used network-based recovery on a Mac?  That mode has basic networking and will ask you which WiFi network you want to connect to (if you're not connected via ethernet), and the password for that network, when it first starts up.  I fail to see why iOS network recovery mode would be any different.

get that it doesn't work that way today (and requires tethering to a computer), but I'm assuming that's the whole point of this new feature.  Giving recovery mode the ability to connect to a WiFi or cellular network.
That’s what I’m thinking as well. I don’t see why it’s so hard to figure out?

  • Duet Display update will allow Mac users to extend displays to Android tablets

Well, that's one way to avoid getting completely Sherlocked.

  • Apple makes iOS 13.1, iPadOS 13.1 developer betas available for testing [u]

While it seems odd, this is not unexpected to me at all. iOS 13.0 is a disaster and since beta 2 I've known that this was going to be a bomb of a release. And clearly they know it, because they are going to move right past 13.0 (never releasing it to the general public) and skip to 13.1 which will be the bare minimum for public consumption.
Maybe I’m in the minority, but the iOS 13 Public betas have been rock solid for me. No crashes, no funny business. The only app that doesn’t work for me is my credit union app. But everything else works fine. And I’m sure that’ll be fixed once iOS 13 is publicly released.

  • General consumer interest in Apple Card is 'remarkably high,' says survey

Seems like a mediocre card with regards to benefits (IMHO). I've got an Uber VISA that gives me:

    1% on all purchases
2% on all online purchase (including Apple)
    3% on travel/hotels
    4% on restaurants

I don't really care about the "prestige" factor; I care about what I'm getting out of it.
