  • Apple agrees to bend to Russian law and store user data on local servers

Canada has similar user data requirements. It just isn't run by a brutal dictatorship. The issue here isn't so much the requirement, it is the risk that the government will abuse it.

  • The WSJ calling the iPhone XR a failure that 'can't sell' is ludicrously mistaken

I bought my son an XR. The yellow one. He loves it. Two anecdotes a trend makes  ;)

  • August 6, 1997 -- The day Apple and Microsoft made peace

It ASTONISHES me that, even after 21 YEARS, this pro-Microsoft drivel is being peddled by mainstream media!

The "investment" of $150 million was a SETTLEMENT that Microsoft agreed to pay for BLATANTLY stealing and using QuickTime code that was created by one of Apple's third-party software developers, and integrated into what was then Windows Media Video format!

    http://thisdayintechhistory.com/12/06/apple-sues-over-quicktime/

I am absolutely disgusted when I see this crap posted 21 years later, continuing the narrative that Microsoft "saved" Apple, putting Microsoft in an altruistic light when no such thing is deserved or warranted!
I signed in specifically to say the same thing. That was a payoff for what they did with the QuickTime code. They literally stole it, comments and all. They were caught dead to rights. The agreement was not an altruistic gesture from Microsoft. It was a "please don't sue us and prevent us from playing video on Windows for years to come". But history will eventually forget thanks to articles like this.

  • Apple's iOS 12 prevents accidental screenshots on iPhone X

What triggers me is having the power button opposite the volume buttons. I absolutely hate that about the iPhone. My camera roll is full of screenshots because I accidentally registered a click on the volume button while pressing the power button side.

I can't count how many times I have turned the phone off while trying to increase the volume.

Having the buttons directly opposite each other by definition causes the applied force to one button to transmit into the button on the other side unless you consciously relax the specific finger placed against the opposite button. It is the single biggest design flaw on the iPhone.

I highly recommend the Netgear Orbi. It is an absolutely fantastic wireless "mesh" router system and worth every penny.
It may be a great router but it suffers from he same thing most of these new ones do.. NO ETHERNET PORTS.  I live in a small apartment and I'm limited on my power plugs.  To plug in two things now instead of one (router plus ethernet hub), but if you opt for a standard router that looks like a a miniature helicopter, it takes up too much space.  Would love something in the form like an Orbi that has 4-5 ports on it!  Oh wait.. that's my Extreme!  My Extreme is fairly new granted not as fast as the Orbi, but it works and it's fast enough for me!  Mesh is more for people who have houses, who will run an ethernet bridge off one of the mesh routers, plugging it in where it's convenient and calling it a day.  otherwise the rest of us are stuck with a hideously big drone looking wireless router.  This was the beauty of the Airport.   I for one was hoping (and still have a slight bit of hope) that Apple was going to do a wireless router/NAS which they had in Time capsule but something a but something that could hold like 4/5 drives.  Now this is something I would love to see.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not a better system.  They just don't find MY needs.
I just did a quick count. The Orbi base and satellite both have 4 ethernet ports each. They appear to work since my rather old office printers are both plugged into the satellite and I have been printing things  I have a microcell plugged into the satellite as well.
