  • Apple chip partner TSMC to start 5nm 'A14' production in mid-2020

So, what is the benefit of a 200+mph car if the speed limit is 65?

Isn't Apple still installing the A10 (from September, 2016) in new products today in 2020?   Don't they work (for 95% of users) just fine?
Faster CPUs benefit everyone because faster generally means tasks finish in less time saving battery. The way modern SOCs work is they shut off parts of the SOC that are idle. The quicker you get to idle, the better for battery life. So older devices are probably plenty fast for most users but most users would prefer the long battery life of the iPhone 11 over the iPhone 7.

  • Two months later: AirPods Pro versus Powerbeats Pro

I bought first gen airpods, but after 2 years I got just 2 at most hours of playtime and that was deal breaker that I am not gonna purchase another airpods, simply too expensive to be replacing them every 2-3 years...
Just so you know, you can replace your AirPods and AirPods Pro for battery problems for a reduced cost. It is $89/airpod for AirPods Pro and $69 for regular AirPods. Not cheap but still cheaper than buying new. Even cheaper if you get AppleCare extended warranty for the AirPods, $29 across the board after the $29 AppleCare purchase. So a one time replacement would be under $90. Still not cheap but a little more reasonable if you are a very heavy user of the AirPods.

I have a 3 year old pair of the original AirPods and they seem to still get pretty good battery life so I don't think I would spring for AppleCare but I also am not a particularly heavy user.

Edit: There is an even cheaper plan for replacing AirPods with a battery issue. You can get replacements for $0 with AppleCare or for $49 a piece for out of warranty. So, much cheaper at just $90 to replace the pair.

  • Pro Display XDR works on iMac Pro at 5K, not 6K

This is exactly the problem.   Apple simply lets its “pro” hardware languish for way too long turning them into bad buys.   There are few rumors yet but I’m really hoping we see a new iMac Pro early in 2020!    Chip technology has advanced significantly and it isn’t just TB3 controllers.  An iMac Pro built around AMDs Thread Ripper technology would be amazing. IMac might not be able to handle the highest end Thread Rippers but with in a reasonable power budget Intel can’t compete.
Except so far AMD has made no move to TB3. I guess they will when the USB4 spec is done and shipping but right now, Apple is all in on Thunderbolt3 and I can't see them switching to AMD until AMD supports it (and probably not even then.)

  • Apple shifts iOS 14 development strategy to cut buggy releases

That’s ridiculous. Unfinished code or known buggy code should never be checked into the daily build. That’s software development 101. Something is seriously out of control if developers have been checking stuff in prematurely.
This is happens when people with no engineering background become the senior management at a tech company. At least Jobs was familiar with the challenges of engineering hardware / software. Cook is a process guy (how to build / distribute things) and not really familiar with engineering. He wouldn't know a resistor if you threw one at him.

The fact that things got to this point at the biggest tech company in the world is staggeringly alarming. Tim, less streaming and more engineering, eh?
If you think Tim Cook isn’t an engineer you seriously don’t know his background and why Jobs recruited him. He is one of the best industrial engineers in the world.

For some reason, I find it a bit challenging to pull out my AirPod Pros.

Is anyone else having trouble getting them out of the case? I wonder what I’m doing wrong.
Open the case and put your index finger on the back of the AirPod. Push forward. They pop right out. Better than the originals when you get the hang of it.
