  • Apple Watch Series 5 teardown reveals bigger battery

Can anyone speak to their real-world experience to the battery life on the Series 5 compared with other models....
I have had a 44 mm Series 5 now since last Friday. Long enough to get a sense of the battery compared to the S4.

With the always on display all day and evening and using theater mode at night I’m getting well over 24 hours. I’m at 25+ hours and still have 22% battery.

This is slightly less remaining battery than I would see with the S4 at this point but only a few percent less.

  • Hands on: Titanium Apple Watch Edition Series 5 is worth the extra cost

Apple do have some kind of nano-coating on the titanium. This prevents it from picking up the ugly oxidization that raw titanium is susceptible to. It is possible that this coating also adds scratch resistance.
The coating is a bit weird. For the first couple of days it felt tacky and rubbery. But now it has seemingly “dried” and feels very solid. This gives me a bit of hope that it is durable. I was skeptical at first.

  • How to pay your Apple Card bill

    ssalb said:
Received my Apple Card invite and was accepted this past Friday. As others have mentioned the whole process was very simple and it only took about two minutes to submit the request and get accepted. Received a decent credit limit. Today I wanted to setup my payment info. I had hoped this would be as simple, by just linking my payment to a debit card also stored in my wallet. After chatting with an Apple Card Rep, that is not possible at this time. You have to enter your Bank's routing and account number. Think Apple would have thought of that. I can understand not being able to pay the balance on the AppleCard with another credit card, but this is a debit card linked to my checking account.
If you have an Apple Cash account linked to a bank already, it asks if you want to use that bank info. Very quick.

  • Review: LG 23.7-inch Thunderbolt 3 4K UltraFine Display excels with Mac integration

Waiting, waiting, waiting on Apple to take the 27” 5K display in iMacs and make it a Thunderbolt Retina Display, with modern MacBook Pro aluminum and glass industrial design. 0.6 inches thick, 3 TB3 ports, 2 USBA, Ethernet, SD card slot, speakers, and front camera. Hard to believe they won’t sell a million units of these per year for the next 5 years at least, at $2000 per unit.

My Thunderbolt Display is getting pretty long in the tooth now.
Yeah, right now, I don't see anything that can replace the convenience of my 8 year old Thunderbolt display. I would love a retina screen but I don't want to give up the ports and the build quality. There is one caveat though, the built-in thunderbolt cable on my monitor died. It sort of works but the USB functions will silently fail. The fix was easy enough, use the second daisy-chain Thunderbolt connection with a new cable. It took me a while to figure out why my trash can Mac Pro was crashing and didn't have brightness controls but since I replaced the cable, the display is still working well.

So if your TB display starts acting up before Apple or LG can come out with a better retina 27", check the TB cable.

  • After three years of delays, Intel plans 10nm chip shipments in June, 7nm in 2021

The labels are confusing and can’t be taken at face value. What intel calls 10nm is most similar to what TSMC calls 7nm. What intel calls 7 is analogous to TSMC 5.

so intel is behind by a year, not 3 years
Provide your sources backing up this claim.
Unfortunately it is probably too technically difficult to quantify. There are different pitch values for each process. One way to measure would be to have similar CPU layouts and measure the transistor density but trade secrets and proprietary designs make that unlikely. This is technical article but with a couple of good charts: https://wccftech.com/intel-losing-process-lead-analysis-7nm-2022/

This is more up-to-date with 10nm
