  • Apple says the iPhone 15 battery is more durable than it originally thought

My iPhone 14 Pro Max is down to 90% battery health. I’ve never charged it more than once in a 24 hour period. I had it on launch day, so 523 days ago. On that basis the claim of 1000 cycles to 80% certainly seems reasonable.

  • Unsurprisingly, Mark Zuckerberg believes Meta Quest 3 is the 'better product, period'

Reminiscent of Steve Balmer’s response to the iPhone introduction.

Steve did have valid points, but by the time the 3GS came out those points all but evaporated and it was game over.

The Vision Pro is not going to storm the market as a version one product. It is too expensive, it does need an external power pack, etc.

But you’d better believe that by Vision Pro version 3 it will steamroll the likes of Meta.

  • Apple Vision Pro is surprisingly durable in first YouTube drop test

Curious what his break-even point in views is for the cost of an Apple Vision Pro. Also eagerly waiting for the ifixit article :)
I assume he has Apple Care and takes it back for a repair. I suppose that'd help cut the cost down.

  • Apple's EU App Store changes are extortion, says Spotify

Long story short the companies that are complaining thought, rather naively, that the DMA would force Apple to lower or remove their fees and remove roadblocks.

Apple has no intention of making it easy for companies like this. They’ve made it very clear that they, for whatever reason, feel fully justified in their fee structure and so, yes, they’ve worked out how to make the ruling effectively pointless.

Personally I think Apple should have lowered their fees years ago. They’d have avoided years of negative press over it and could have demonstrated that they are reasonable.

Still, my personal feeling is irrelevant. Apple will continue to fight this tooth and nail.

  • M3 Ultra Mac Studio rumored to debut in mid-2024 -- without a Mac Pro

Perhaps Apple will release MacPro with an M3 Extreme of some sort? They need to do something to differentiate the Mac Pro from Mac Studio other than it has PCIe slots. More CPU/GPU power, higher RAM capacity would definitely separate it from the Mac Studio for those who really need the power and capacity. Make it actually worth its $6-7,000 starting price tag.
The Mac Pro is obviously missing the Extreme chip version. Yes, some people need the PCIe slots, although Apple has made them less attractive by not supporting GPU’s, etc.

Still, if they put in an extreme chip the design suddenly has a reason to exist and justify its price cost.
