  • Apple's Windows Game Porting Toolkit gets faster with new update

This really is brilliant work on the part of Apple. Yes, they’re progressing on the base that was already out there, but this really is game changing. Excuse the pun.

Just in time for them to hike iCould rates in multiple countries by about a third.

    Their greed knows no bounds.
So at what point should a company lose money due to inflation so that you can be happy?
You’re right, I’d not realised that inflation was running at 33%… oh wait, it isn’t. Perhaps that’s not it.

Maybe the currency has significantly weakened vs the dollar since the last price rise? No, actually, it’s improved.

Hmmm, so. Inflation is out. Currency fluctuation is out, what does that leave us? Oh, yes. Greed.

  • Steam update brings new features & Mac hardware acceleration

Looks like it’s still an Intel binary, so not Apple Silicon native. :-(

  • 'Diablo IV' skips Mac gamers, and Whoopi Goldberg is mad about it

Queue the “Macs suck for gaming trolls”.

The reality is that Macs are one of the best platforms for gaming and Metal3 is the reason.

The hard truth is that while Mac might now have great developer support for gaming (which was NOT always the case) it's also the smallest platform for gaming, save perhaps Linux.  Especially compared to Windows, but also compared to consoles.  Remember, 100% of consoles are used for gaming, while not 100% of Macs are, which dilutes the gaming market that Mac sales represent.  I'm always disappointed when a game isn't released for Mac (or Linux, for that matter) but I get why they make such a choice.

That said, it is out of character for Blizzard to skip the Mac, and maybe a first?
Sadly Blizzard has been clearly exiting the Mac Market for a few years now. I own a lot of their games, but only because they had Mac releases. Word on the street is they had a falling out with Apple, something about a lack of support from Apple themselves... Don't know how much truth there is to that.

  • Several Macs have been cut off the support list for macOS Sonoma

That really pisses me off! I have a nice 15" 2017 MacBook Pro, and just saw it got dropped off. It's a great machine, and I have absolutely no reason to want to upgrade it. It runs great! Why are they dropping support for it? I'm surprised Apple started dropping support for the TouchBar and USB-C based Mac's already. The first came out in 2016. That's not a long time ago. Especially for the higher end models like mine. Really bugs me.
Don't worry about it. My good old 2008 MacBook Aluminium is happily running macOS Monterey, I've got a 2012 Retina MacBook using Ventura with no issues. Simply wait for some nice people to create a patch that lets your MacBook run Sonoma, it won't take long for the community to do so, there is no technical reason whatsoever that your MacBook can't run it happily.
