  • iCloud Time Machine for Mac & new AirPort routers pop out of rumor mill - but hurdles abou...

Sign me up on day one. I was gutted that Apple left the market rather than bringing in a Mesh version.

  • Everything we know about the next HomePod

I love my two original HomePods, use them every day.

Biggest update I want to see is for Siri to not be stuck using the Internet to run basic commands. The amount of times I ask Siri to do something basic like to set a timer or switch off a light just for it to come back with some variation of “Hmmm, this is taking too long because I have to check with head office before I set your poxy fucking timer” is a real pain in the arse!

I think there is some power saving feature going on because I find that after a couple of hours it goes through this brain fart stage of just timing out on whatever you ask it to do and then 30 seconds later it’s fine again. I wish I could turn off that feature, the kids crappy Amazon Echos never have this problem.

  • Apple may release a cheaper Apple TV streaming device in 2022, says Kuo

I’ve owned an Apple TV since the original version came out.

The main reason I own my current one is for the privacy aspect.

I also have a 4K Fire TV stick that the kids use that only cost me £29 in one or Amazons usual sales.

To my mind Apples biggest problem is that, for the average person, the Apple TV doesn’t really do anything for £169 that the Amazon Fire TV Stick does. Yes, it had a nicer UI, yes, it’s a tad faster and yes, it does look slightly better with certain content.

But all of those “slightly better” features does not, to the average Joe, equal £140 more.

Whats frustrating is that you know the Apple TV could do a lot more. The hardware packed inside isn’t really being used, it’s a waste.

Apple Arcade has the opportunity to turn the Apple TV into the equivalent of a modern Nintendo Wii. You don’t need games to have the latest Unreal graphics engine to be fun. The Wii demonstrated that you can own the family living room on the cheap, it’s all about accessibility and the experience.

The new remote is far better than the terrible old one, but why do they not have an Apple gaming remote, at least as an optional extra?

Why with Apple fitness are we still stuck with just one person being tracked at once?

Why not chuck in a couple of movie rentals each month with the Apple One Bundles?

Theres so much more they could do in this space.

  • 'Total War: Warhammer III' coming to Apple Silicon - but not Intel Macs

Not a surprise. AS is the future and it was only a matter of time for software to start only running on it. They don't make things for PPC any more. Soon enough Intel Mac software will be the same.
But but but but it needs to run on my 68K Mac!  :D
There exist in this world certain groups of tech luddites. I mean the OS 9 forum on the Apple Discussion Forums is not dead by a long shot.
Some of us just love to keep the old machines going, Mac Repository, for example, is a fantastic site stuffed full of old software.

I love tinkering around with the old Apple Products, just recently bought a beautiful PowerBook G4 where the Hard Disk had failed. Have given it a good clean out and placed in an SSD Drive, also maxed out the Ram for good measure. Such a lovely computer and surprisingly quick once the SSD is fitted.

The new generation has my attention too, am typing this on a 16" Apple Silicon MacBook Pro. So nice to see Apple actually listen to customers and produce a MacBook Pro that actually deserves the "Pro" moniker. I have great respect for Jonny Ive, but my god those 2016 - 2021 Intel MacBook Pro's were all terrible.

A bit more on topic, I'm not surprised to see Feral going AS only. They have always been good adopters of the latest Apple Technology, investing in Intel Binary software now will simply see increasingly diminished returns. Much better to aim any new products at the future.

  • 'iPhone 16 Pro' could be the first iPhone to completely ditch the notch, says Kuo

I do not care that a shrinking bit of screen turned into a notch that might turn into a hole that might dissapear over the coruse of 5 years or whatever. I do care howevcer that iOS and mainstream apps are less of a buggy glitchy UX kludge on that pure uninterrupted screen. Gapless playback in Apple Music? Doesnt work (again). Amazon? Freezes everything for a second here and there when running. eBay? Crashes regularly. WIFI turned off? Assumes I want it to turn back on and does so without me. Notifications turned off? Apps try to get me to turn them back on. Photos? Green reflection artifacts in almost every photo on the 12 Pro Max that I never saw on any ohter iPhone. And on and on.
In Apples defence they cannot control the software quality of the likes of eBay or Amazon.
