More reliable? They certainly used to be, but the speakers have blown in my brothers 2018 15” MacBook Pro, twice, already. And no, he does not sit there with volume at 100% trying to break them on purpose.

My own 13” 2017 MacBook Pro has already had to have the entire top section replaced due to the crummy keyboard design and it’s only 8 months old.

I really miss the reliability of my 2012 13” MacBook Pro.
So because of 1 case, they're unreliable? LOL! Nobody ever said it was perfect. No product ever is. It's not like there were never issues with previous Macs before or after 2012. Let's get real here

They replaced the top section of my laptop because of a piece of dust. I genuinely thought the keyboard thing was really blown out of all proportion, which is why I bought it, but the issue is real.

Seriously, who designs a keyboard that can get taken out by a speck of bloody dust and then keeps that shoddy design on the market for years?!?!?!

For my brothers MacBook Pro the cost of repairs to fix the speaker issue would almost have paid for a brand new model, had he not been in warranty.

He is now concerned, and rightly so. The issues hardly bode well for the future and he spent £2600 on it as he upgraded a lot of the specs and had planned on keeping it for a number of years.

No computer is perfect, but this new generations issues seem largely due to the design being form over function. Apple’s obsession with their computers being thin has resulted in high failure rates and repairs that require to throw half the computer in the bin due to the way the parts are all soldered/glued together.

  • Apple Watch ECG feature not arriving in Canada anytime soon

I don’t understand why Apple is so slow with international rollouts of new functions. :/
Apple has always treated their non US customers as second class citizens. That’s not going to change.
How does it benefit Apple to have gov't clearance for the ECG, banks lined up for Apple Pay, or any other features that are fully operational and ready to go and then not offer them to a country where the masses are ready to buy and they have supply on the ready to ship? I can't think of a single, logical business tactic that would make Apple not want to make as much money as possible from Canada.
If Apple put the same effort into getting their services into other countries as they do the USA it would happen a lot quicker than it does.

Yes, regulatory approval etc does take time and laws vary country to country. But there are frequent examples where Apple has been pushing right up to the last minutes to get a new feature ready for approval at launch in the USA and then taking years to make it to other countries.

Lets take Apple Pay Cash as an example, apart from the USA where is it? Apple Pay is heavily supported by UK banks, I don’t think a single major bank does not support it.

But despite the UK being a key market with almost 50% iOS market share there is still no Apple Pay Cash support.

Sure, Apple is certainly working on it. But not with any urgency etc.

  • Huawei trolls Apple by handing out power banks to customers waiting in line for an iPhone ...

Huawei is wasting their effort. These are hard-core iPhone users. They are not going to switch.
Yes, but they're not trying to convince them. They want the free media coverage for those who might be on the fence.

I have to admit, I'm annoyed that Apple has not increased battery life for another year in a row, heck they actually decreased the battery in the XS against the X.

I cannot remember which poll it was, but it was a recent one, where it asked for the feature most people wanted in the next iPhone and the top answer was better battery life.

  • Apple's iPhone XR has the best claimed battery life of any iPhone, ever

The more I read about the iPhone Xr the more I realise that it represents the best value, by a long margin, of the three new handsets.

No way does an OLED screen and a slightly better camera system justify £250 more.
You can have your opinion and I can have mine.
Absolutely, you’re more than entitled to your opinion of course! I have to say I am genuinely intrigued by your opinion though.

What is it, about the Xs, that justifies in your mind the extra £250 over the Xr?
2x optical zoom isn’t “slightly better” to anyone who shoots a lot of photos/video. Also, Xs has 1GB more RAM, 3D Touch, IP68.

    anything else I’m missing?
3D Touch, at least generally to my knowledge, is not used by most iPhone users. I think the only time I use it is when I want to choose how bright I want the torch to be, but your milage may vary of course.

The extra ram has not yet been confirmed, has it? But even so it is likely to be a negligible hit to the performance.

IP68, definitely a plus, but I can't think of many scenarios where this will really make a difference. Dropping it in the pool, down the toilet, in a fishing lake etc and you're all good to go with either handset.

Optical Zoom, yes I can see why you'd want that if you use the phone in a semi-professional capacity. But for most people who just want to take holiday snaps pics of the kids, you'll not notice a difference.

**Update, there is a difference in the Ram, 3GB vs 4GB, but benchmarks seem to indicate a very small increase in performance overall, generally unnoticeable.
