It is odd that Apple has a way to detect that a phone has been hacked but doesn’t have a way to stop it. Unless they were running an old version of iOS that hasn’t been patched which would be very careless on the part of the journalists and politicians targeted by Modi’s government. 

It doesn’t matter if they are patent trolls or not. If they hold the patent and Apple copied it then they are in violation. They can pay, find a different way to get there or pull the features. My guess is they will pay at the end of the day and change it in the next version or they have the next version ready to go and will do an early launch. 

Seems some think it threatening enough to bash it.  I find it fascinating and love that a company is exploring new ideas. It is a lot more functional than strapping a great big mask on your face as Meta and Apple are convinced we all want to. Got my Apple Watch on v7 and don’t find it all that great so I will reserve judgement on apples AR and on this and see what v8 or 9 has to offer. 

I for one wish governments would do more to contain tech, not less. The EU is forcing to open the App Store is a big win that will over time allow users to load what they want from any source they want. I don't need the tech company to baby me. Cracking down in Google, FB and X privacy and fake news is also needed. If 158 phones are stolen a day in London then absolutely, the government should be involved to find better ways to cut down on theft and recovery. This reads like more of a biased opinion piece, not much in the way of reporting the facts. This writer has gotten it wrong in several stories now (like the one where the iPhone 15 heating problem was not a problem at all till Apple acknowledged it!)

Well, he did name the company. I don't know if Kuo has personal stakes and whatnot with them, but Kuo explicitly stated that the overheating in the gossip sphere wasn't caused by TSMC's 3nm fab or technology. The impact to Apple's stock may be just collateral damage.

Kuo threw the titanium design under the bus, but what does he really know about the design and its heat transfer physics? Enough to lie about it? Who knows.

It is your usual post iPhone introduction controversy cycle. Not sure if it is any better that people are going into stores scratching up cases versus going into stores and bending and breaking phones. Craziness.

I doubt he would lie. We’d find out soon enough and his credibility would end and possibly so would his job. He was probably told something by a supplier. That’s his expertise, supplier economics. I don’t know how technically adept he is, though he can’t be ignorant about any of this either.

This does raise the question about how rumors can have a real world effect, in this case on shareholders. Not sure where journalism stops and speculation starts with people like Kuo and what recourse a company or maybe their shareholders have to litigate information that is shared with no basis in actual facts.
