Apple Vision Pro $3,499 mixed-reality headset launches at WWDC after years of rumors
For those going on about the price of this headset - my partner and I bough a Macintosh 128K in late 1984. 9” B&W screen, no hard disk, 400K floppy disk, price about £2500 at the time.
In today’s money that is equivalent to about £10,000.
Neither of us had loads of money (I was only 1 year into my first job! And my partner was a student) but we could see that it was the future and that there was nothing else like it. You pays your £3,500 … -
Apple's iPad is propping up a collapsing tablet market
For the majority of users an iPad does all they need. People like us who write on computer chat fora are not the majority. I used to teach use of computers for free, hosted by the local council for those who wanted, and they would invariably ask “What should I get?” And when I asked them what they needed to do it was hard to answer anything but ‘iPad’.
I have an M1 iMac, but for email, browsing, photos, TV, production of our local area 50 page magazine, finances, recipes, family history, task manager, reading PDFs, “sheet music” for my choir, wine tasting notes, spreadsheets for utilities and personal expenditure and file storage it’s my main device by a mile. My iMac is certainly better for some of those tasks, but the speed of my 2018 iPad Pro still surprises me and it’s so convenient to lay back on the sofa and do it and I can slip it in a shoulder bag! -
Galactic tensions rise as Apple TV+ series 'Foundation' returns in July

on the Foundation podcast the director said he thought it would take about 8 seasons to complete it. I hope Apple lets him do so. ߤt;/div>

Galactic tensions rise as Apple TV+ series 'Foundation' returns in July
I found Series 1 compelling in terms of performance, sets, scale, effects, acting, intelligence and drama - so good that I watched the whole series all over again and appreciated some things I’d missed the first time. I am SO looking forward to Series two.
I would urge anyone who has not listened to the Foundation podcast to do so. The director explains the decisions that were made, how he came to the novel through his father, how he loves the book but why he considers it unfilmable and hence why he made the changes he did in order to put it on screen. I found it a superb companion to the series and adds extra appreciation to the whole series.
