  • AirPods Pro 2022 review: Already excellent earbuds, improved

I can’t believe that using the same design is seen as a “con”!

It’s a depressing thought that people, even reviewers, think that products should be redesigned for no other reason than to look “new”. If something is designed as it should be then it should remain the same unless some change would improve that aspect of the product.

  • iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island shows Apple out-thinking rivals again

    A gimmick!?

It’s one of the many things that Apple does that makes you smile.

It’s like the way old buildings have “inefficient and unnecessary” designs, extrusions, twirls and more that builders/architects of modern buildings rarely include because they don’t see the point.

But, that is why humans, as lovers of things beautiful, often prefer those aspects of old buildings and what makes us cherish them. Apple fully understands that beauty and delight are important and certainly not “a gimmick”.

  • Seven years later, Apple was right to kill off the 3.5mm headphone jack

Wired headphones just sound better. Period.
I use Etymōtic (ER4SR and HF3 headset) and (Grado RS-1X and SR325) headphones.

I found dongles that let me listen AND charge simultaneously, so no problem with no headphone jack.

Yes, I have AirPod Pros which I HATE. Mediocre sound and they never feel comfortable and constantly fall out.

    The real question…
Why does the iPhone still have a Lightning port instead of a USB-C port?
Agreed, but I don’t use my QUAD-ERA1s via a dongle (or a 3.5mm Jack if it had one) on my iPad/iPhone as I use them fed from a separate headphone amp - so even if you had a 3.5mm jack I can imagine you’d use it anyway, not with RS-1Xs!

  • How and why Apple's iPod touch could be reborn

I’m a recent iPhone user having had an iPod touch since the 2nd generation and no mobile phone. The problem arose, ironically, due to Apple Music. My iPod was 64GB I think and as it had no data (not that I’d want to use that) I stored all my music on the iPod. Trouble was, it was a very tight squeeze so I needed a bigger iPod touch. I looked around at 2nd hand models and what I found amazing was, on eBay and the like, a 2nd hand iphone with the storage I wanted was cheaper than the latest iPod touch with the same storage. Not only that, it had better speakers, display, cameras and the rest. It didn’t make much sense to me but I ended up with an iPhone instead and sold my iPod touch. End of an era.

Then of course when the iPhone 13 mini was released ….

That’s perhaps why they stopped production?

  • UK won't copy EU USB-C common charger mandate

If I was a manufacturer, would I think ” the UK doesn’t have to have a USB-C port, so just for them I’ll make a special model that uses lighting instead and increase my production costs accordingly”?

No. I’d be an idiot to do that. So we will still get the lightning port dropped just like all other member states. Our stupid government thinks we can just make our own rules, but when you sell to other countries (or huge markets like the EU) we still have to meet their regulations to do so.

Leaving the EU Is probably the largest act of self-harm we have ever done in this country. We now have to comply with all EU regulations (if we actually made any mobile phones!), but unlike when we were members, we can no longer be part of writing the regulations we will still have to adhere to in order to sell there.

    It’s way beyond idiotic.
