Intel's Alder Lake chips are very powerful, and that's good for the entire industry
Good for the industry is the standard phrase …
Apple aren’t going back to Intel no matter how good Intel get. Apple didn’t produce the M1 to beat Intel, they did it to give Apple control over all aspects of the chip and make the best computer they could.
Given Intel can’t sell to Apple then who are they improving their chips to beat? Any non-Apple computer will probably use Intel regardless as they certainly won’t be able to use the M1. So that leaves Intel vs AMD. Again. And look where that got us. -

Qualcomm aims to take on Apple Silicon in nine months
I love the “competition always benefits the consumer” bit.
Was it competition that produced the M series chips? No, it was Apple being fed up with what they had.
Did competition produce a Mac, or the Magic Keyboard, or a decent trackpad that nobody else has managed? Has the Apple Watch created a slew of competitive smartwatches that have benefited non-Apple users - err, no.
You just need to make the best you can.
