Apple & Google accused of supporting 'gender apartheid' by hosting Saudi woman-tracking ap...

I’d hope that Apple would actually talk with Saudi women and get their take on it, to determine what course of action has the least impact on human rights.
Friend,
There is no need for the snark.
The law is wrong and a human rights violation. I’m suggesting that Apple consult with Saudi women (you know, the people actually affected by this unjust law) to figure out the best course of action, since removing it may cause them inconvenience while having no discernible change on the law. Keeping the app and removing it both have consequences, particularly since it sounds like the functionality is available on the Saudi government website. I’m just thinking that if I’m a woman in Saudia Arabia, I might want to work to have the law repealed altogether, rather than make it even more difficult to travel in the short term.
If Saudi women’s rights groups think it causes disproportionate harm, then remove it...hell, block the site/page on Safari too.

Digital assistant test shows Apple's Siri is improving, lags behind Google Assistant
"We found Siri to be slightly more helpful and versatile (responding to more flexible language) in controlling your phone, smart home, music etc" states the report. "Our question set includes a fair amount of music-related queries (the most common action for smart speakers). Apple, true to its roots, has ensured that Siri is capable with music on both mobile devices and smart speakers."
When I would ask Siri to play "Das Rheingold", I would get "I couldn't find DOS Wrangled in your music".
Siri would often mangle composer names...I'd have to say "Richard Wagner" as an English speaker would, not in the correct German pronunciation. This happened over and over, and there were certain composers I couldn't get her to play at all no matter how I pronounced their names.
My last straw was when I asked Siri to play "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony". She understood me perfectly and then played some modern artist's song that must have had something about "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony" in the title.
I know accents play a large role on how well Siri understands people, but Spotify's assistant rarely makes the same mistakes with me using the same accent (although its certainly not perfect either).
I also remember asking Siri to play "I See Fire" (the song from the second Hobbit movie by Ed Sheeran), and it kept coming back as "I couldn't find Icy Fire in your music". I tried over and over again to get her to hear me, but it never worked

New Apple video ad shows the effects of Portrait Lighting mode in the iPhone 8 Plus
hallmansm said:Am I the only one who thinks the effects look terrible? If they look bad in a slick commercial, I can’t imagine the real thing with my non-model friends and family, and my non-perfectly-controlled situational lighting getting any better results.
With that said, the studio lighting modes are about as close to a gimmick as I’ve ever seen Apple approach. I haven’t been able to get a single picture using studio lighting to look anything short of horrendous. Yes, I know it’s supposed to be beta software, but it really feels undercooked.... Samsung levels of bad. I frankly find it hard to believe that they’re advertising this as a feature at this point.
Since I’ve just crapped all over studio lighting, let me just reiterate how good portrait mode is. I received the iPhone 8+ before I left on a family trip to Disney World, and I couldn’t put the camera down, I was so impressed with the results.

Apple debuts first AirPods TV commercials, Apple Watch ad focusing on activity
Soli said:super8sean said:These are my second pair of headphones.
If you took the time to read the forum I linked you'd see it mostly a problem for people that have apple watches.
i think the Apple Watch and the headphones are competing for the same Bluetooth connection with the phone.
Still an Apple problem that should have been tested by apple.
They released the product prematurely because they were trying to keep their promise to release before xmas.
So the nonsense is strong in you young padone!
PS: They worked great for me with an iPhone 7 Plus and an original Apple Watch.
PPS: It's Padawan. I had to look up the spelling, but I knew that |pad-one| would be an incorrect pronuncation.
Super8sean, my experience has been similar to Soli. I have AirPods and an iPhone 6+, and an original Apple Watch… And I don't experience any of those problems you've noted.Since these are your second pair...Have you tried doing a full reboot of your phone? Have you tried unpairing and then repairing? Perhaps reset all settings? Yeah, the worst problem I've had with them is an occasional quarter second drop out.
