And what news agencies has to do with FBI internal matters related to public/national security ?
They are only asking how much it cost, not how they did it. The taxpayers have the right to know how much those rumored $500 toilet seats actually cost. It’s their money.
Next things news agencies will ask how much chair and tables in FBI offices cost and how much they pay to under cover officers and who they are. So news agencies get spicy news to print and make more money of it at the cost of FBI people's life who work hard to protect people.
It never hurts to be accountable for things. Just because they're the FBI, doesn't mean they can do whatever they want, whenever they want at the expense of tax payers. Yes, they need to be able to do their jobs, but not at the enormous expense of tax payers. You're never held accountable unless someone brings it up. I, as a taxpayer should have the right to see where my money is going.

Ok, so the rumor continues to be that this will be used as a new form of biometrics to unlock your phone but what other function/purpose will it serve? Just seems like a large investment of both time & money to just unlock your phone. Not being snarky, but can someone enlighten me to other uses this could bring?

Apple never does things for the hell of it. They always have a plan. You may not see exactly why this is important today (or when/if its released), but in the future you will. You have the lay the ground work for this stuff first and then go from there. Apple does this all the time...I bet most people don't even realize it.

For example, do you think for a second that Apple only came out with this extremely well implemented fingerprint reader (TouchID) just to unlock your phone? Of course not! They were most likely working on ApplePay the entire time knowing TouchID could be a very secure way of implementing it. Nobody knew this at the time, except Apple but it was implemented and tested for a year or so before ApplePay came out so they knew TouchID would work well for it.

  • Fifth generation of Apple TV to bring 4K compatibility, little else - report

If it has 4k it will come with a faster processor. At least an A9.

If Apple decides to update iTunes with 4k this Apple TV will release same day as content.
I agree...why not build the thing for the future instead of today. Hell, I'd put in an A10X. Why it wasn't released with 4K in the first place is beyond me. The lack of 4K and 4K content is Apple TV's largest downfall in my opinion. You're paying $150 for something that doesn't even do 4K (only 1080p) when there are cheaper devices that do the same thing and support 4K.

  • Jaguar Shell app lets UK drivers refuel using Apple Pay from inside their car

AppleInsider said: Jaguar Land Rover and Shell have collaborated on a new payment system that can be used to purchase fuel at Shell service stations without leaving the vehicle...

Errr...not sure how much of an advantage that might be as in most cases you have to leave the vehicle to fill up with fuel in any case! :)

The driver tells the app which pump they are going to use, and after providing a security PIN to start the transaction, confirming how much they wish to spend on filling to the car.

That and having to decide how much money you want to spend. I generally just fill it up and find out what it cost afterwards.
You don't have pre-pay? All (if not nearly all) pumps in the US are pre-pay. Too many just putting fuel in their car and running off without paying. Our pumps don't even turn on until you pay (pre-authorize a payment).

I wonder if gawpers will create traffic problems.
If its built like the plans I don't think there's really anything you can see from the road. The entire campus would be surrounded by basically a man made forest. Not that this would stop people from trying to see something.
