Apple's 'failed' 5G modem effort means iPhone 15 will be all-Qualcomm
This is a very chip-in-slot centric discussion whereas Apple’s direction is all SoC, so I might think any delay here would be associated with getting a modem functional block into the SoC itself. How far they might be trying to take this would be an interesting question, ideally leaving only the analog portions external to the SoC (mixed digital/analog on the same chip being pretty hard). -
13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 review: Incremental upgrade and unexciting
I think this review and others have missed what the likely market is for this model, which is enterprise. The rest of the product (especially the screen) may be a few years old but they are still good and still competitive against average Windows laptops, so in a sense were ahead of their time when they first came to market. Which today means they would be lower cost and give Apple considerable headroom for enterprise discounts on this model while maintaining margin. The M2 processor gives enough performance bragging rights to stay in the running for an enterprise bid. Why not list price this lower due to the other tech being older? That would be nuts, destroy the market for the Air which the rest of us would get. No, I’m quite sure this is deliberate - similar list prices to keep the Air more attractive to consumers, but be able to offer hefty discounts on the 13” Pro to enterprise customers. -

Apple's iPod is the other device that saved Apple, and set the table for the iPhone
Shortly before the iPod launched, in a moment of retail therapy I hunted around Best Buy for something interesting to buy. Everything portable was so boring. PDA’s! Little more than an address book in your pocket. Who cared about Windows CE? Just one more thing to keep up to date. To quote Steve, Yuck!
I instantly recognised how different the iPod was. A totally different direction in personal electronics. Something actually useful and desirable. And so well integrated with the data I already had, seamless. For all the claims of the miniature hard drive or clickwheel making the product, what really brought everything together was FireWire which enabled the implementation of the miraculous and almost instantaneous syncing with the owner’s computer. And this was built in to Macs. USB 2 was released as a spec in April 2000 so the capability to offer a similar syncing experience at the hardware level was all but non-existent. Even Microsoft was not onboard with USB 2 for Windows XP, instead (strangely) preferring FireWire. But this was not a widespread feature of Windows PC’s, so the real reason there couldn’t be earlier support for Windows was the Windows platform technology gap. -
