Mac Pro in danger after fumbled Apple Silicon launch
JamesCude said:It's a relic from another era. Mac Studio covers 98% of the use-cases and sorry but the remaining folks who "need" these really don't- they just need to update how they handle I/O and seek more efficient processing.
All the people panning these machines expected their idea of a workstation. This was never on the cards what was on the cards is what we got a very niche machine to host AVID HDX cards for ProTools and SDI video I/O cards for Resolve/Premier/Final Cut. -
Apple threatens to kill iMessage & FaceTime in UK if controversial law passes
darkvader said:I'm assuming they'd still work if you use a VPN to appear out of the country to Apple servers.I expect Signal would still just work, I can't imagine they'd go to any actual effort to break it, they'd just not "officially" support UK users.
While you may be able to do some workarounds the loss of critical mass and the fact you'd only be able to communicate with existing international users makes it not worth it.
Sadly I expect the current government in the UK thinks that Apple/Meta and Signal are bluffing, they aren't they are deadly serious and the UK is a small enough market they can that walk away from it. -
Apple Silicon Mac Pro debut finally ends transition away from Intel processors
This machine only exists to service a small segment of the market which needs Avid HDX cards and Blackmagic Decklink or AJA Kona SDI video io cards.
If you don't have either of those needs then the Mac Studio is Apple's solution.
They could have completely abandoned that but chose to make a machine that they will probably make a loss on developing to service it. -
Survey says 80% of Mac developers will integrate ChatGPT soon
Translation 60% of developers want to do underhand things that they are prevented from doing by App Store rules.I doubt that Apple will allow 3rd party stores world wide they will only do it in jurisdictions where they are compelled to. Thus some developers will not jump ship because the cost of supporting multiple stores will outweigh the increased revenue. -
