  • Apple's iOS 12 is here, adding improved performance, Life Balance features, Memoji, Augmen...

Most exciting thing in iOS 12 is the Siri Shortcuts.
Rest is pretty meh. Augmented reality has zero use cases I can think of (for me)
Hopefully stability and performance improvements for everyone in there somewhere.
Awaiting reports of broken x.y.z in 3..2..1 for older phones.

Followed by iOS 12.01 not too long after.

  • Being practical about iPad Pro, Mac mini, iMac and other possible Apple launches in Octobe...

Does any else think Face ID on an iPad is just so not needed (ie will convince nobody to upgrade for that feature alone)

Will probably happen though , just because. Probably a similar upgrade like from X level to XS  too just in iPad form. Nothing major.

ie lack luster. Evolution, not revolution.
Let's hope for price stability though on the iPad line. Some new colours too ?

I forecast the mini (like the SE) is gonna be put out of its misery and killed off for good. A shame, but it's presence is making Apple a laughing stock.

The iMac.... No fantastical redesign, just a few tweaks to faster cpu, gpu etc. Don't expect a new form factor till after the mac pro in 2019. For many, this will be enough. Still 8GB starting ram for premium pricing... sigh.

MacBook (to replace and kill off  the air) will arrive though,  but be more expensive than people want (as usual) but nice specs. People will complain about the keyboard...

Mac line up is gonna be simplified.. air and mini are dead.

Really wouldn't surprise me if we saw some kind of cross over branding soon happen to the Mac.

    MacBook X anyone?

Expect 50% of the above to just not happen and those products will languish till Feb 2019 as is. Sigh.

None of the above is what I want of course!

  • Samsung teases mystery Galaxy device launch promising '4X fun' in October

    Competition is a good thing.
It makes companies try harder , including Apple.

Let's hope they don't price whatever it is into the stratosphere too like Apple just did.
Soon the moto of these companies will be

"Truly amazing phones for the rich, and we have some average ones for the poor folk. Something for everyone."

Or something like that Tim Cook said lol.

  • Apple and the aggressive rollout of its iPhone XS vision for the future

I guess if you take depreciation into account the value proposition is less of an issue if you get a significant portion back.

And I accept people's points that value is relative (both time wise and for each person)

I guess I'm struggling to justify why £1249 is genuinely worth it.(to me)

The wife says I should buy it since I'm always on my phone lol.
Still, £1249 ! (XS Max 256). My last iPhone was the 7 Plus. I think it was 819.

    That's a hell of a mark up.

  • Apple's MacBook and MacBook Pro inventory dwindles ahead of possible update at WWDC

    Roll on June 4th.

Note though that Dell's new XPS 15 is available with an 8th gen core i9 and 32Gb of DDR4 memory.

Whether you think that machine is comparable to a MacBook Pro is another matter. It's certainly priced like one in the UK and has all the bells and whistles you would expect like 4K screen  (review I read said 100% gamut, and bright too)

Just saying .. 32Gb is doable now. In the few reviews I've read battery life isn't compromised either.

    Apple doesn't have to wait.

Now if they can't do it because it would make the machine a few mm thicker... then I won't be happy.

And I'll say it again... hoping they ditch the butterfly keyboard. Apparently that Dell has a similar one too which massively puts me off.
