  • Apple's MacBook butterfly switch keyboards target of second class action complaint

I tried a MacBook Pro at the weekend in the store but the keyboard was absolutely terrible. Hardly any travel at all. Almost like typing on an iPad.

My old MacBook Pro is now 5 years old but there is no way I'm buying a new one with these keyboards. My old machine is superior in that regard.

As the primary interface point with the machine I can't help but think Apple have seriously failed here. Especially given the price of these things.

I know people say that I will get used to it.. but why should I ? OSX is value adding but it's not strong enough to keep me in the Apple camp.

I will wait till June 4th and see what is released but it's looking likely I'm going to have to consider my replacement laptop might not be an apple if the keyboard is still bad.

  • Wall Street wowed by iPhone X performance, but cools off on expectations of an Apple 'supe...

It royally sucks to be honest.
Apple so far has turned out to be my worst investment in stock in a long time having bought in at the end of last year on the anticipation (my view) that revenues were gonna be great and that the X sold more than thought plus service growth was double digit etc. All true , but alas.

So despite huge revenue and the points above, market manipulation by analysts in the run up to the results plus Apple besting their own targets but missing analyst’s own ridiculous expectations results in a further 4.3% tanking in one day seems unjustifiable and unreasonable.

The market seems rigged. Would be better off with a tracker fund!

Amazing that investors listened when the analysts spread their FuD but now they don’t listen when their recommendations are for a price target of 188 to 215.

So now we wait for the eventual climb back up (wash rinse repeat!) ... just to get back where we were already at a week ago.

    best quarter ever .... whatever.

  • Apple apologizes for iPhone slowdown controversy, will reduce out-of-warranty battery repl...

It was the right thing to do so well done Apple. Now let’s hope they make battery replacement easily accessible (ie no arguing with a genius guy who insists your battery is just fine even if you suspect otherwise).

lets also hope this comms is widely reported by the media just like he problem has been.

extra info in the iOS update will be welcomed to make informed choices (simply  - how many cycles has my battery been charged, how much has the capacity degraded , is my phone being throttled , and perhaps an estimate of how long till it needs a replacement).

  • Criminal lawsuit over iPhone battery slowdowns filed in France, where planned obsolescence...

I personally know people who got rid of their 6 due to slowness and battery issues. When they went to the Applestore they were NOT told it may be a battery problem at all which could be resolved by a battery change. Instead (in my wifes case) she was talked into an upgrade as they made her a cash offer for her 6. Made it so easy.

They upgraded (in my wife's case to a 7)

    She now feels duped.

    Cant blame her really.

Knowing what we know now, chances are we would have pushed them to reveal how many times the battery had been cycled and whether or not the phone was being deliberately slowed down by iOS. At that point she could have considered a new battery instead.

At present she also wont upgrade her 7 to iOS 11.... lack of trust now!

  • Criminal lawsuit over iPhone battery slowdowns filed in France, where planned obsolescence...

I think this could be a turning point for Apple in terms of them losing "trust and integrity" with the general population.

At a family Christmas visit, where most people have iPhones, this was surpisingly a hot topic - with non techy people.

And the consensus was that apple played a devious card by not telling them their phone battery was compromised, and thus slowing down the phone. People were angry that they probably upgraded from their 6 recently due it being slow as a snail when they could have just got a new battery. Even worse that you can go to an Apple store and they will test the battery and say its fine even though iOS is slowing down your CPU due to the battery. Thats unforgivable. My family agreed.

That lack of transparency is gonna cost Apple dearly. I heard family members considering Android (and Ive never heard any of them say this before). Perhaps Apple doesnt understand the level of anger here.

Apple needs to get some comms out there ASAP or face even more backlash. Its also not transparent that you cant even see easily how many cycles your battery has had. Why hide this info in a private API (it used to be public but they changed it... wonder why!)

It may well have been a solid technical fix but the way they went about it just reeks.

At this point, Ive also held off updating my iPhone 7 to 11.2. Not sure I will either. At this point, they have lost my trust. And to be honest, over the years that was worth a lot in $ terms to them. So I hope they find a way to regain it.
