  • A year with Apple's 5K iMac: Still the best Mac for your money

I’ve been using this iMac since late 2017 and it has been great! Good to see it treating AI the same way. I’m glad Apple is making awesome iMacs again!

  • How to get more speed and features out of Safari on Mac and iOS

I sure do wish the Settings per Website was available on iOS. A certain news website runs a constant silent audio stream that hijacks any other audio I’m listening to. I’d love to just shut down all audio for that site.

  • OWC reveals Thunderbolt 3 10G Ethernet Adapter for MacBook Pro, iMac

It sure would be nice to work multi-GB files on a server over the network. Especially in a collaborative environment, copying assets to local storage and working from those is problematic. Links go missing and even if they are available, the links often point to a local copy, leaving a collaborator to search the server for the file that started out as a local asset.

Leaving everything on a server and accessing at 10Gb is the way to go! I remember when gigabit Ethernet enabled that 15 years ago. Since then files have gotten bigger and the gigabit network is the chokepoint.

  • How to add or remove fonts on the Mac with Font Book

What are some good sources for fonts--free or consumer-priced?
Not sure. I don’t think I’ve used an explicitly free font for anything important in a long time. And consumer priced is in the eyes of the consumer. I guess I’d point you to any of the software bundling sites. They might offer big collections of fonts for pennies on the dollar.

  • Surrender, Detroit! Automakers should give in and develop native apps for CarPlay

I guess the problem is the consumer is dumb and doesn't know what they want. And auto manufacturers know it.
I don’t know if consumers are dumb. Perhaps you’d prefer they espouse your preferences. Doesn’t make them dumb if they don’t.
I hear ya, but I defined dumb as "doesn't know what they want." I reassert that people don't know what they want when it comes to auto automation. So it's not a matter of sharing my preferences, it's a matter of being unable to assert any preferences.
Not being interested in a mobile device integration is a valid preference. I just bought a RAV4 (with Toyota's shitty Entune) for my gal who didn't give two shits about it having the worst iPhone integration of the 3 vehicles we test drove. I was really bummed out. One of the vehicles we were considering had CarPlay and I pushed hard...but she knew exactly what she wanted. She loves the RAV4. And even though I would have made a different choice, she was well-informed, and chose based on a different set of requirements than you or I would.
