  • macOS 26 rumored to be called 'Tahoe'

Tahoe? Seems a bit blah for such a major release.
Have you ever been to Tahoe? Didn’t think so! It’s a beautiful place (except when it’s snowing). As a former resident (& it’s proximity to Reno) I am excited.

Great news but why can’t Ultra 1 get this update?  (Since I thought the differences between Ultra 1 and 2 were relatively minor.)

Ultra 2 is substantially different than 1. The SIP in the 2 is much more modern (e.g., supports finger tap gestures to answer/hang up phone), much faster,… the important thing is that although they may seem relatively minor it is far from it.

I also owned an Ultra 1 & couldn’t see updating it until I actually did the research to see what had changed. Not cheap to upgrade but you just have to decide if the new features are worth it.
    Cheers

  • How to plan hikes & other outdoor adventures in Apple Maps with iOS 18

The thing that continues to disappoint me is the lack of ability to add waypoints (if I am using the correct term) e.g., ‘planning a trip from Houston to SF in 3 days— with side trips to the crater, Carlsbad Caverns; want to travel I10 W till I get to point where I can exit to each side trip, visit said places & then be able to turnaround to go back to I10. I would also include 2 overnight stays along the main route in say El Paso & Las Vegas. I don’t want to break this up into 5 or more trips. I want to travel along this route and check distances from current. Location to any of these points mentioned. Would be difficult if broken up into routes for each segment!’

Am I missing something or is this really only good for day trips?

  • The next Apple CEO: Who could succeed Tim Cook?

I also believe Federighi could be the best move considering his possible longevity & his time with the company. He also has had some negative reaction in the media at times — some of it unfair and uneducated; that may leave a bad taste in the board/stockholders mouths. I guess we will have to see.

No matter who the board picks it would be wise for Cook to bring up and make them look more like CEO material or did not have familiarity with the product line. Look what happened to the guys that were outsiders (eg, Scully:soda pop, Amilio:semiconductors). They had no credibility and the Mac was still trying to grow with no clear path (ie, the idea that it had to be a business machine but without support from software to make it a.viable business machine).

It is anybody’s guess at this point, that’s my guess, shad’s yours?

  • Apple sells up to 180,000 Apple Vision Pro, says Kuo

Again based on his unspecified inventory calculations, Kuo points out that with a "user base of over 1.2 billion active users... as long as about 0.007% of users are willing to buy... Vision Pro can sell out after opening for pre-order."

1.2B active users in the US........?
I question this - 1.2B active users of what? Not the VP cause none shipped yet…
