  • Note 7 owners launch first of several class action lawsuits in South Korea

<whisper> is there any chance that Android has issues handling the Note 7 hardware (battery, etc)?

  • 'Apple Car' project to choose new direction in late 2017 - report

Personally I always thought building a car was a stupid idea.

    Risks are massive.
    Margins are slim.

Just look at the 'success' story of Tesla who is losing $30k on every car they sell. There isn't much profit to make in the industry...

And yet, Tesla just sold more Model S cars than BMW and Mercedes combined in the same segment.  Tesla is doing just fine.
To sog35's point... if Tesla is losing money on every unit -- then they are making an "Amazon.com-like" bet on the long run. I assume Musk has done the math and decided they can pump enough $ in losses to establish the brand. Then they will be a premium car brand with an electric twist. So, not so stupid if you look at that perspective.

Apple, on the other hand, is a consumer electronics company. A car would be an add-on to the brand... not the Brand Itself (Tesla). I judge that Apple Will have the tougher time of it if they choose to manufacture a stand alone car. Again, IMHO, there are Way Too Many variables to auto manfanufacturing / dealerships, mechanics, part, etc. etc.

How about if we delve deeper into the possibility of a BMW (insert premium car brand) / Apple Car. Apple keeps their brand intact with the premium car manufacturer getting a X year exclusive on the tech in an "Apple car." After X number of years, Apple can offer the tech to other manufacturers. Something like what was done with iPhone/AT&T. The main danger in this is that the other companies do a quick copy like Samsung and your tech is not that attractive in X years. This may have been discussed elsewhere... but what do you think?

  • Samsung now projects $5.3B hit on profits from Note 7 fires

...Like the successful movie studios that never, ever have a hit production, they're probably attaching every possible expense to the Note 7. And the SK government will allow it because they want their prized behemoth to survive.
That's it -- SS will act like nothing significant happened. Act as though the SS Brand is fine... lookie-here at the new Note 8 or some sh*t.

Even when Samsung Mobile's profits were off over 65% a few years ago -- Nothing significant happened... etc.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook meets Nintendo executives, plays Super Mario Run in Japan visit

SuperMario Run was announced as a pay-once title. Which was derided in some circles as the "old way to make money" (with in-app purchases the mod way to go).

Do we know what the price will be?

I, for one, am glad to see a title with the old-style purchase. They can charge an upgrade fee for full number upgrades. I won't even mind in-app new characters, etc if they are low priced and truly optional.

I am not fond of the Free/High-priced in-app model used by "Real Racing" for iOS... in-app Racing $ & Gold up to $99... which, for all practical purposes, turns into $300-400 to purchase all of the cars needed to complete the game (of course, they keep adding new Series so the purchasing is endless). I won't and don't shell out that kind of money for a game. Some cars are only purchased with gold – enough gold that it could take a couple of years worth for one vehicle (some priced for "low" enough gold to only take a few months to a year to earn).

Maybe Cook is interested in improving Nintendo hardware.  After all he seems to have lost interest in Macs.
Enough now please... If they announce no new Macs this year then by all means go nuts... maybe updated iMac...
Please and pretty please, announce new MacPros and iMacs!

I still agree that it is really unfortunate that the MacPro has been neglected. With the new cylinder design, I was very excited to get the Gen2 MacPro. Now it's 3 years later and I'm more than ready for a MacPro (and a couple of iMacs).

    So, please and pretty please...
