  • Apple highlighting App Store benefits to customers & developers in new promotional push

Wow, I just read the new Apple Developer page! These are a very good series of defense arguments against the current App Store Assaults. The ASA'ers are banding together with PR and lawsuits as we know. (I'm not a developer -- As a user and artist, the Mac has been an invaluable tool since 1987.) Now, the App Store allows me instant access to spectacular (inexpensive) tools for allowing me to work on my iPad Pro, with Apple Pencil, of course... and all of my 11 other Apple devices.

And still, I thought 30% is a pretty steep price for you Developers to pay...

Until I read the AD promotion page (culled from different parts of the page):
    • Allow users to pre-order your new app and receive it through automatic download once it’s released.
    • Apple verifies user accounts to check that your users are real, helps to see that you get paid, and ensures that your intellectual property is protected. We also assist with tax obligations in over 60 regions and support any dispute process to help you protect your trademarks and copyrights.
    • Users can restore apps and in-app purchases on a new device to seamlessly maintain access to content.
    • Use TestFlight to share your beta builds with up to 10,000 (! nice beta group) external testers using just their email address or by sharing a public link.
    • This and Much More... Keep 70% of your sales proceeds or 85% for qualifying subscriptions.

Since you like analogies, how about you buy a car so that you can start making money doing Uber, Dashpass, etc.  But the car dealer demands a 30% cut of everything you make while you are driving the car they sold you?  Same thing.
If the car dealer paid my gas & insurance, I could see them getting a cut. It would still be my responsibility to maintain the (code) car.

  • Epic sues Apple after Fortnite removed from App Store

Hey folks, read the comments on the YouTube video to hear what people outside the Apple bubble think. Best one thus far:
“You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain”
Over 13,000 comments thus far. Seems to have touched a nerve.
Certainly is easy to post crap-a-ziod anti-Apple comments... outside the bubble (I'll check YT later). Although I'm very impressed with the sample comment, I'm not impressed with the anti-Apple meme that has existed since the Lisa/Mac were released. The Lisa was $10K in '83 ($26K). The Mac was $2,500 in '84 ($6K). Pricy items with a new platform, limited software choices, etc. Apple was made fun of "outside the bubble."

So while the out-bubblers may be having smug-fun, I was in the garden in 1985, plugging away on a Mac128 at Alphagraphics ($10/hr?) - teaching myself how to work it (not a techie) as an artist without the cash to get formal computer training. I'll never forget when some guy said over my shoulder, "you can click anywhere along that line to select that radio button." A Revelation.

Man is this cool! I'm doing more of this. Another friend said, "learn one key command a day & you'll get good at the Mac." He was right, I've gotten pretty good over the years.

  • Epic sues Apple after Fortnite removed from App Store

If Epic wins I’m going to start a business selling popcorn and other snacks in movie theater lobbies.  Without paying the cinemas a dime.  Maybe I’ll setup kiosks in malls to sell products, rent free.  And maybe I’ll even sell bottles of wine inside restaurants.
Brilliant!! Why the hell I didn't think of this?!

Of course, in reality, you would be hauled away in handcuffs but it sure is nice to Dream!

The article contains a factual error.. The 16” MacBook Pro is a Coffee Lake (9th generation Core i9) processor, not a 10th generation (Ice Lake) processor as asserted in the article.
Thank you pointing that out. I had a question mark as I read this today... Ice Lake was scheduled to be released 2nd half of 2020 (basically now): https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-cpu-road-map/?itm_medium=editors
