  • Following 'Greyhound' success, Apple eyes more blockbuster-style films

I also feel no need to return to movie theaters.  I do enjoy our new downtown theater with the large reclining/heated seats, but will still only attend for a blockbuster film, and if that’s available online for streaming to my home I’ll definitely watch it there.  I have a 65” OLED 4K TV, 7.1 sound, 1Gb Internet access in my very comfortable living room.  We watched Greyhound with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I’d strongly encourage movie companies reconsider their distribution options.  I suspect they’re missing out on a strong at home audience.  After watching Greyhound on AppleTV+ I checked iTunes to see if I could purchase it to add to my library, but it’s not available there.  They’re definitely leaving money on the table.

  • AAPL hits all-time record high stock closing price of $331.50

Cook is no Steve Jobs, Apple died when Jobs died, Apple crap is overpriced, Apple products are only for mindless sheep who want to look cool and trendy, the stock is way too expensive, law of large numbers, nobody can afford Apple products, Apple Watch is a loser, Apple can't innovate any longer, blah blah blah

    Did I miss any?
I’m not sure why people who don’t support Apple post here.  I’ve been using Apple products for 36 years and never regretted it.  Better yet, I trust Apple with my data.

  • Apple Watch Fall Detection credited with saving unresponsive Arizona man

When a user takes a hard fall, Fall Detection will prompt the user to respond and dismiss the notification or contact first responders. If the user doesn't dismiss the dialog within one minute, the Apple Watch will do so automatically.

This is incorrect. If the user doesn't dismiss the dialog, the watch will contact 911 automatically and not dismiss the dialog automatically.

I think it also sends a message to your emergency contacts
I think you’re misreading the statement.  I had a hard fall a couple of years ago and my Apple Watch 4 immediately popped up, said it had detected a hard fall, and asked me if I was OK or wanted to call 911 and my emergency family numbers, or dismiss the notification.  Perhaps it would have been clearer to say “respond TO dismiss the notification or contact” people.  People these days often throw in an “and” inappropriately.

  • COVID-19 sensor could bring daily testing to iPhones

As an older person (70s) with an immunosuppressive spouse (kidney transplant), this kind of a quick test would be valuable to have when the inevitable wave returns this fall flu season, if not in the interim since we have such poor population testing and the virus is still fully active in the wild.  Some medical people are now suggesting that the spread of the current pandemic is so widespread that we should expect the virus to become endemic in the population forever, much as ordinary flu is now.

I understand testing is not curing, but it would be helpful to know to go to the doctor quickly in our circumstances if a quick test were available.

  • Apple TV+ Dolby Vision HDR streams failing for some viewers

There's also the issue of competing standards, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, Atmos and DTSx. Most manufacturers are picking sides and very often don't support one or the other. In my case the TCL 6 series in the master suite offers Dolby Vision but not HDR10+. The Samsung Q80R in the family room is exactly the opposite. As I typically do my movie streaming in the family room I wouldn't see any benefit to Dolby Vision on AppleTV+ anyway AFAIK.

Also don't let anyone tell you streaming a 4K Dolby Vision or HDR10+ movie from a streaming service (even Apple's) is the same quality as playing a BlueRay UltraHD disc either. It is not. BlueRay UltraHD is a plainly superior experience, something I did not know would be so evident before being loaned a player and a couple of movies. I''ve now bought one for myself, a refurbed Sony UBP-X700 for less than $80 (Ebay) . What a huge difference with the right content, and easily moved between TV's. Oddly enough tho Dolby Vision BlueRay content does not look better and in fact looks worse to me on the TCL than HDR10 does on the Samsung.
This is the reason you do not what the streaming app in our TV, Keep the TV dumb, and add the smarts with an external box which has a powerful processor and add the capabilities via software.
Agreed, but where do you get such a 55"+ TV capable of displaying 4K Dolby Vision and/or HDR10+ without buying smart features too?
Just use your HDTV or OLED TV as a dumb display, running everything through your Apple TV.  I’ve never used the built in features on my 65”OLED TV.  I just plug my TV into my amplifier with HD pass through and Dolby support, and my Apple TV into my amplifier, and my Apple TV plugged into my Internet connection for all the source material.  Then my Apple TV sends the Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos stream through my amplifier, sending the video stream to the TV and the sound output to the 7.1 speakers.  Works perfectly.
