  • Apple TV+ drama 'Invasion' gets trailer, debuts October 22

Another annoyingly uneducated sci-fi invasion series. Let me break it down for you.
In our galaxy, planets started forming around 13.5 billion years ago. Earth formed around 4.5 billion years ago. Life on Earth formed 3.8 billion years ago just after Earth cooled enough to have a solid surface. There could have been life in the galaxy for 11 billion years before it formed on Earth. That means that any alien intelligence we encounter is likely to be billions of years old. Their technology is as advanced as it is possible to be. They have access to all the resources in the universe. They don't need to invade Earth but if they did, human resistance would be laughable.

  • What you need to run macOS Monterey

I wish Apple considered that support of older Macs, when technically possible, would make people more likely to buy a new Mac not less. If I know that the brand new Mac I buy will still be getting new versions of MacOS in 12 years, I am far more likely to plonk down my cash for one. As it stands, there are computers removed from support that are only six years old! I don't remember anyone at Apple saying "Hey, buy this new MacBook and get just six years of use out of it before you have to recycle it."

  • Privacy and security war will go on for years, says Craig Federighi

On device voice recognition is a major new security feature. Hopefully that will expand over time so that all of your high security activities, such as Siri commands and home security camera feed monitoring, can be moved to devices in your home or in your possession. That will make HomeKit far more useful. Lights that stay on only when someone is in a room. Robot vacuum cleaners that don't go into rooms that are occupied. Notifications when someone the security system does not recognize enters your home when you are not present. I don't trust a server on the internet to do these things but they could be safely done by a secure computer at home without direct access to the internet.

  • This is why Apple TV 4K Siri Remote scrubbing doesn't work on Disney+, other apps

I am lost. Why doesn't the Apple Remote send scrubbing UI events to apps? Why does Apple insist that apps use its video playback features? I know that in my apps I am constantly working around the limitations of Apple's SDKs and often end up implementing some feature that eventually becomes built into the system in a future update. The developers of the other video player apps probably wanted to write one piece of code that worked on every platform for an easier to maintain code base.

  • Apple faces higher taxes after G7 agree to global tax rate changes

The loopholes that were closed are the same ones that Apple and other big tech companies lobbied to create in the first place. Then they acted all innocent "What? We were only following the law!" Cry me a river.
