  • Apple fighting Russia over alternative App Store payments

Many people posting here love Apple's rules for developers and customers even though they limit what they are allowed to do with the devices they own. However, Apple has to play by Russia's rules when it sells products in that country. The same goes for China and even in the USA. Will these same defenders of arbitrary rules be consistent when the tables are turned and it is Apple that is forced to follow them? I think not.

  • Apple AR headset, new Mac Pro and more expected in 2022

Hopefully the main focus of Apple's AR glasses will not not be games. The real value of AR glasses is that they can give the user augmented intelligence. Using AI and computational vision, AR glasses could give you a better understanding of the world around you. A simple example would be the ability to zoom in to see distant objects. Computer vision has exceeded the ability of human eyesight for quite a while now. Glasses that let you see in the dark, find objects you are looking for, look around corners or behind solid objects would quickly become essential items. Tagging of objects and locations becomes possible as well. You could select Yelp reviews and see what people are saying about a restaurant you are looking at. You could select a nature channel and see information about each plant or animal you can see. Like all new technology, AR will have its down sides as well. It is not clear how you build AR glasses without some kind of camera built in and walking around with an always on camera is still not socially acceptable.

  • Apple hourly workers feel helpless under punishing pressure & mistreatment

This is a major reason why I chose not to pursue a career at Apple: It treats different people differently. Apple should show respect for all its workers. It should not treat contractors or store employees with any less respect than its essential software developers and designers. At one facility they had different bathrooms for employees and contractors. Does this remind you of anything? Do contractors have their own water fountains as well?

  • FTC sues to block Nvidia's $40B acquisition of Arm

If this acquisition is allowed it makes no sense why Apple’s App Store is being forced to open up. Apple has every right to run its products the way it wants to. Nvidia owning ARM affects multiple computing companies not just its own.

Nvidia owning ARM is a terrible idea, and should be stopped.

And that has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Apple and their app store.  Apple has NO right to run MY iPhone the way it wants.  It's MY iPhone, not Apple's iPhone.  And because it's MY iPhone and not Apple's iPhone, Apple should not be allowed to have any say whatsoever about what software I choose to run on MY iPhone.  If you want to only get software through Apple's app store on YOUR iPhone, that's your right.  But neither you nor Apple should have the ability to stop me from getting software from any source of my choosing.

And the same thing goes for in-app purchases.  MY iPhone, not Apple's iPhone.  It's only Apple's until they sell it.  Then it's MINE, not Apple's any more.  It's well past time for Apple's app store monopoly to be busted.

    Waaaaaaaahhhhhh.

Its your iPhone, but you only have a license to use the software on it. I mean, this has only been mentioned countless times over the years when talking about computers/software and ownership.
So you are saying it's not really your iPhone if Apple can tell you what you can run on it in a license they never showed you before you bought it and no one ever reads? Putting things in license agreements that say you don't really own what you bought never do well when litigated. How many people has Apple sued for jailbreaking their own iPhones? I am guessing that number is somewhere around zero. This is because Apple knows that if it ever did go after someone for violating their precious license agreement that it is the license agreement that would get rejected.

So conversely since the FTC is suing NVIDIA to block the ARM acquisition, you are a proponent of Apple's App Store being forced to open up?
    I agree!
