  • Compared: 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro vs Dell XPS 17

That's not to fault this review, which is, as always, a good one.
Agree to disagree I suppose... The article does essentially nothing to "review" either device beyond a light spec sheet comparison.
This is just a straight specs compare, which we get a large volume of requests for. Reviews will follow.

Can the review include a look at hardware compatibility with Mac OS?  This Dell hardware actually sounds REALLY good compared to the Mac, which means a "Will it Hackintosh?" article would be pretty helpful.

(Yes, replaceable RAM and SSD are a MASSIVE plus for many of us, as is the lack of idiotic screen notch, and having an Intel chip is also a nice thing.)

  • macOS Monterey review: A compelling refinement of Big Sur

    1.  It's still ugly.  Mac OS 11 was awful, this doesn't even begin to fix the worst of that.  No surprise, Apple's been going steadily downhill since 10.6.

    2.  I've been running it on test machines for months.  It seemed stable-ish, though of course Apple still can't figure out how to write a working email client - not that Apple is unique in that, nobody has been able to write a good one since Eudora, and even that got bad in its last few releases.

    3.  The new 'features' are all a big yawn for me - or at least they are now, once I got that infuriating 'new note' hot corner insanity turned off.

    4.  We still don't have any definitive word that the spyware Apple built in is turned off permanently.

  • Apple pushing back against South Korea's App Store payment law

Hopefully the Korean government will take Apple to the woodshed over this one.

If big fines don't work, maybe some Apple executives being hit with international arrest warrants would.

  • MacBook Pro refresh could reuse the iPhone's notch in the display

I was hoping that now that they've gotten rid of Ive that Apple would stop making stupid design decisions.  But no, Ive's minions are just as stupid as he is.

  • Netgear has a new $1,500 Wi-Fi 6e mesh router

My Orbi Router set (RBR50s) is the worst piece of kit I've ever owned (at least since the Lowes Iris smart home fiasco). Bad build, bad user experience, bad networking, bad app, bad customer service, what's there to like?
I ended up going out and buying a Deco (been fairly happy with it) - my Orbi would consistently drop the WiFi connectivity of devices.  They'd claim to be connected, but have no data pass through.  Turn off WiFi, turn it back on, and you'd get data for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or two.  Of course, that meant you'd never know *when* it would stop, wouldn't see texts/mail in a timely manner... And it all started after some firmware update they did - it had been pretty good up until then.  After the update, I gave it about a year to get fixed, and it never did.  Awful to use at that point.  Maybe they've fixed it, I don't trust Netgear at this point.

People seem to like the Google stuff, Deco has been been good for my house, I really wish Apple had stayed in the router game... But I'll never get near an Orbi again.

Gear from a Chinese company?  Not on my network.  Too many ties to the Chinese government.
