  • Apple to reportedly unveil iPad Pro, MacBook Air replacement, Mac mini at Oct. 30 event

I am keenly awaiting this October event and glad I hadn't plunged into getting the 2018 13" MacBook Pro as intended in September.  I am actually struggling as to my IT strategy for the next three years, whether to go all in with the MacBook Pro or alternatively have a mixture of Mac Mini or iMac at home and iPad/iPad Pro for the road. My brain tells me the MacBook Pro is the most versatile: I can do document reading/processing together with movie/photo/audio editing and coding.  Pretty mixed use.  All being said, I'm in a position to make good use of cloud services and I've dabbled with movie/document editing with the iPhone but find the "big screen slate" format of the iPad more natural to work with, more so after having an opportunity to dabble with an Apple Pencil on my mother's 2018 iPad which I've found a real joy to use.

I've found Apple this year has provided plenty of flexibility and choice in their product range; it makes it difficult for me to choose but I feel I will be productive whatever combination I decide to acquire.

On the topic of flexibility, I'm surprised at people who persist in suggesting that  USB-A be restored to the MacBook range; it's just not going to happen: it would be a retrograde step  from the clearly superior increased flexibility and capabilities that Thunderbolt 3/USB-C offer.  It perturbs me as to how difficult these so-called professionals have in the trivial matter of acquiring a different cable or hub if needed. I have to wonder how they cope with professional matters such as constrained deadlines and resources, project management, comprehending and adapting to a client's demands/specifications, etc.

  • Lack of iPhone XR delivery delays suggest softer launch demand than iPhone XS

I was back in the market for an X model until prices were announced. It's now a no go for us.
From your posting history I highly doubt you were “back in the market” for any iPhone.

The new XS range has launched at the same price level as last year’s X; thus you should be able to get the X at an even cheaper price in clearance sales.

  • Apple Pay may account for half of mobile wallet users by 2020

You have a narrow view of the world. In the US it's slow, but around the world tap & pay is very common. Over 95% of my transactions are done via my Apple Watch. The only time I can't use Apple Pay are the rare occasions a retailer doesn't accept it or when I purchase something more expensive (over the limit).
Last month I paid the £200 for my car service by ApplePay and the manager couldn’t believe his eyes! I just wish more stores updated their systems to prevent the £30 contactless cap kicking in. Tesco has this and it drives me nuts.
I suspect Tesco doesn’t adopt this limit so that it can promote its own PayQuik app which requires giving Tesco your banking details.
In view of the latest revelations of the Dixon Carphone Warehouse data breach, I’m loathe to leave my card and other financial details with any retailer.

I’m fortunate enough to live an area with a choice of competitors, so I tend to go to Sainsbury’s and Waitrose who’ve fully adopted Apple Pay; it does contribute to making the shopping experience easier and more pleasant.

It’s short-sighted of Tesco not to adopt Apple Pay: they’re effectively making shopping more difficult for those who are actually willing to spend more.

Unfortunately there are enough stupid people on this planet for these bottom dwellers to make money on.
It's not all that much about people being stupid. These aren't even close to an X. Some people just want the look of a high end product and are happy if it's close enough. That's why you can by a Rolecks or Rolexx on the street. They knock-offs, not counterfeits. Big difference.

Call it what you want whilst playing with the semantics of counterfeit, knock-off or fake.

The only difference is how able and bold the counterfeiter is in imitating the original products’ name and look.

  • 2018 iPhone SE predicted to be a minor upgrade, if it happens at all

So instead of an IPhone 5 with a faster processor It will be an iPhone 5 with a NEW faster processor? This guy is brilliant, and when can I get one?
If you study the specifications of the current iPhone SE it's evident that it's not simply an iPhone 5 with a faster processor.  It's effectively an iPhone 6S but with first generation TouchID, no 3D Touch and running the same A9 processor at a slower speed, all in a chassis identical to that of the 5S and similar to the iPhone 5.
