  • High-end users on 'Why I'm buying the new Mac Pro'

I'm sure that most people buying the new MacPro will be doing so with OPM (Other People's Money). I won't rehash my issues with the product, but will say that this certainly is NOT the Mac for the rest of us ;-)

  • Former Apple event venue Flint Center is closing

This is truly unfortunate. My girlfriend and I have been attending the Celebrity Forum for the past couple years and were sad to hear they will be on hiatus due to the Flint Center. This is the first I heard that the Flint Center is permanently closing.

  • Mac Pro's lessons learned will trickle down to all 'Pro' products, says project lead

The 'closed' vs. 'open' Mac debate goes back as far as the 1980's. The new Mac Pro is NOT the upgradable machine for the average consumer. It's the overpriced and under-spec'd (in my opinion) machine for Mac-centric video and audio professionals. It's really a niche product...

  • Everything new coming to CarPlay in iOS 13

The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX in my car supports a Wifi connection. My bigger question is what will be necessary to use the new iOS 13 Car Play features with my existing receiver. I'm assuming it's at least a firmware upgrade...

  • Apple debuts new $5999 Mac Pro with up to 28-core Xeon processors

Looks impressive, however there are a few drawbacks.

    1. Single CPU only. Most professional workstations offer a dual CPU option.
    2. AMD graphics only. Curious as to whether nor not nVidia GPU's will even work in this machine.
    3. Limited storage bays. Two (2) SSD's seems quite limited compared to most professional workstations.
    4. Price. $6K seems a bit over-priced for an 8-core workstation with minimal RAM, SSD, and Graphics.

Overall, this is a niche product and likely not a huge money maker for Apple. That said, I am glad they are re-engaging with professional video and audio producers who've been waiting years for Apple to (re)introduce a truly modular professional workstation...
