  • ARM Mac Pro coming sooner rather than later, says Jean-Louis Gassee

Gasse was head of hardware when I worked at Apple. As I recall, he was fired for being a pompous jerk. In any event, Apple is NOT moving from Intel to ARM on a high end product they just recently started shipping. There is no equivalent ARM CPU that runs these high end workstation applications. Furthermore, given the relatively low volume of Mac Pro's sold, there is simply no financial justification to switch. My guess is that this is simply Jean-Louis being Jean-Louis...

  • Apple begins construction of new campus in Austin, Texas

Apple has had operations, in Austin, for over 30 years. Austin is an attractive location for a number of reasons: - Central location within the US - Plentiful land to build new facilities - Relatively affordable housing (as compared to the Bay Area) - Diverse and well-educated population - Lower taxes (no personal state income tax) than California - Cool, hip music scene :-) On the downside, Austin is oppressively hot and humid for much of the year. Traffic is also pretty bad and although the price of gas is cheaper, using the toll roads costs $$$. I travel, to Austin, frequently for work and it's definitely one of my favorite cities. If I was a young person, looking to buy a house, start a family, etc. Austin would be very attractive especially compared to the high cost of living in the Bay Area...

  • Sony to shutter PlayStation Vue live TV service in January

Too bad. I started out on PS Vue, but eventually switched to YouTube TV. I think Sony's service was strong, but their interface was clunky and they kept jacking their prices. in the end, there just wasn't enough differentiation from the alternatives.

  • Apple's FileMaker, Inc brings back the old Claris name

The roots of Claris go all the way back to the Macintosh introduction in 1984. Microsoft basically threatened to stop all Microsoft development, on the Mac, unless Apple canned their own 1st party apps (MacWrite, MacDraw, etc.) Apple setup Claris as their software subsidiary to keep Bill Gates happy...

  • Eight unreleased AMD Radeon GPUs found in second macOS Catalina beta

I wish Apple would just sort out their issue with nVidia. Not knocking ATI Radeon's here, but it would be nice to have the choice and it's Apple causing the block, not nVidia.
Simply not true. This is Nvidia who don’t allow their processors to be programmed at the “Metal” level. Apple as a computer producer has right to access and control a processor using up to the most granular elements of the processor’s instruction set. As such, Nvidia is a consumer company. It produces some consumer graphics cards, mostly for gaming, mining and alike. It is not an “OEM partner” to Apple like Intel, AMD, or Samsung.
Interesting observation. I wasn't aware of Nvidia's restrictions. However, I have to take exception with your statement that 'Nvidia is a consumer company'. While it's true that they produce GPU's for the consumer gaming market a big thrust of their business is Commercial applications such as EDA, MCAD, and most recently AI/ML. In fact they are a leading OEM to companies such as HPE, Dell EMC, Cisco and others. My customer choose their GPU's over AMD almost 10:1. Just an observation...
