  • iPhone XS review: There's nothing excessive about Apple's latest and greatest smartphone

My observations in migrating from X to XS Max:
    • Face ID is much faster. Rarely do I even notice it occurring. With the X, it was so slow that my eyes would routinely go to the padlock to make sure Face ID was working. The XS (Max) unlocks so quickly, there's no time to wonder if Face ID worked.
    • The phone is much more responsive overall.
    • Color photos have a lot more POP and, as the article mentions, the focus speed and low-light performance are amazing.
    • 512 GB means I will never have to ponder what to delete.
    • Even with just 2 bars, LTE upload and download speeds are comparable to my premium cable broadband service.
    • The "big" keyboard I missed from the Plus phones is back!
    • Websites are usable with larger fonts from the Plus days again.
    • Qualitatively, the XS Max battery life is OK but doesn't seem as long as the X (which I found to be amazing).

N.B. After using Face ID, Touch ID doesn't just seem quaint, it seems antique.

  • Hands on: Apple Watch Series 4 Hermes

How utterly unfunctional.  "Unfunctional" is now a word to describe such a silly product.

My wife had the same problem.  We got around it by reinstalling iTunes.  You can get a .dmg of the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website.  It didn't do anything to her music, nothing was lost.

It won't see the new phone without the software update and reinstalling iTunes reset whatever flag iTunes had to see in order to trigger the update.
Thank you! I re-installed iTunes 12.8.0 (the version that had been installed) and the MBP is now installing the additional software required to access the XS.

I'd like to get to the point of trying the camera but my 2018 MBP doesn't see the device. I've gone through the Trust settings/resetting multiple times and the Max shows "Connected" for about a second each time, before reverting to "Connect to iTunes" and never appears in iTunes on the Mac. On my iMP, the Mac notified that additional Apple software had to be installed before the Max could first be accessed. The software was automatically installed in ~3 minutes. Then the Max appeared in iTunes, but my iPhone backup is on the MBP, not the iMP. The notification of additional software did not occur on the MBP.  Both Macs are running 10.13.6 and have never seen a beta.

  • Here are the vehicles and receivers with Apple CarPlay announced in 2018 & 2019

Can anyone bring good info as to why wireless Carplay is so expensive? I'm assuming that it's not widely available because of it being somewhat new.
If you're referring to the nearly doubled price of the high-end Pioneer 8400 head unit over the 4400 model, the 8400 adds Wireless CarPlay, a capacitive touch display, and a GPS receiver and navigation system of its own (no smartphone needed, if you wish). The extra money isn't just for WCP.
