  • Proposed Senate bill penalizing resistance to decryption requests nears completion, could be introd

So they want to tax companies for protecting our privacy?

This is all just a scheme to get more hooks into a successful company's cash?

Wow.  This is why you should punch all the Democrats and Republicans you know right in the face, and then any Democrats once more for even pretending to be something other than vile dispicable creeps.   Their teams, and their members sponsor this kind of crap, so all their (your) fault.
It's worse than that. They want to tax companies for seeking due process.  So now they want  resisting federal law enforcement conscription to result in a fine.  Are we going to start billing families for executions too?  I realize this has little chance of passing and would likely just lead to a longer appeal process if it did.  Congress actually can't pass a law that says a company can't appeal a court decision or ask a higher court for an injunction.  Whoever wrote the bill knows this and apparently doesn't care.

  • Company, not Cook, will be held responsible if Apple loses fight over FBI case, experts say

Formal those apple supporters answer this. Would you continue to allow all terrorists, organized criminals, hitmen, and drug dealers to do business with absolute certainty, that because they are using apple products that they cannot be detected regardless what attempts are legally made by law enforcement through the courts. We are not saying that at whim law enforcement would have to write an order detailing their reasons for invading such privacy, but they would have to take this order to a judge and convince this person who in most cases are elected by the general public and convince this judge of their reasons and if this person agree's then and only then they would get permission. Stop the fear mongering, your comments are utter exaggeration and no one has even implied any such thing, the government is by the people and for the people. If you don't like the government then you have every right to attempt to change it, but suggesting the above is absolutely ridiculous.
You still don't get it.  But yes I would indeed be all for all those people to continue to use Apple devices..  You wouldn't?  Apple has complied with every order to produce information they have that they have been given.  The government is not trying to conscript Apple into doing it's job for them.  You really think that is ok?  You have no problem with it at all?

By the way.  Your post is the very definition of fear mongering...

  • Mark Zuckerberg voices support for Apple in encryption row, but FBI is winning public mindshare

Apple, known for its cut-throat business practices and superior attitude, is wrong on two fronts. First, it is actively obstructing justice and obstructing the investigation of a mass murder. Second, it's fundamental argument is the "slippery slope" argument. Even beginning debate students and those in Logic 101 know that the slippery slope argument is consider an invalid argument on its face.
Obstructing justice?  Really?  Are you sure?  Obstruction of justice is actually a crime and no one has accused anyone at Apple of it.  The FBI is asking Apple to write hacking tools for them.  Is it your sincere belief that anyone should be compelled to do whatever is asked of them in order to help facilitate an FBI investigation?

I agree slippery slopes seldom are.  However, the one place that is absolutely not true is when it comes to legal precedent.

  • San Bernardino victims to support FBI in iPhone decryption fight

Are the majority of commenters really believing what you are saying. The FBI is trying to prevent further episodes like this, and Tim Cook is only interested in protecting his bottom dollar, the entire worth of Apple is not worth the single life of any of those of who died. Come to reality people we do not protect these people, and the only ones concerned in their protection, are obviously doing something, they have to protect. I guess the people who side with Apple on this will not care until it someone they care, or love, that gets killed.

Do you really believe what your saying?  What are they doing that will prevent a future attack?  You also answered your own question.  If this issue is significant enough that weakening device security would actually have an effect on Apple's bottom line then it is apparently important to a great many people.

Fine when it loads.  Sometimes loading new stories takes way too long.  Apple should also add an option to keep configuration and position in synch between devices.
