  • Consumer Reports now recommends MacBook Pro after Apple software fix

This doesn't mean CR did their test incorrectly, or unfairly.  They were not the only reviewers seeing disappointing battery life and then of course you have the real world complaints from actual customers.  I hope in the coming weeks we see that this bug fix solves the battery complaints.

  • Apple says hidden Safari setting led to flawed Consumer Reports MacBook Pro battery tests

Look at all these people defending Apple blindly.  If CR tests all their machines this way, and has tested previous MacBooks, MBPs, etc this way... Then there is nothing deceitful or wrong about their methodology or their findings.  If this is how they tested just the new MBPs (which I doubt), then your point about CR being unreliable and deceitful would be true.  Fact of the matter is, USERS, REAL WORLD USERS, are seeing terrible battery life, and that's why this story gained traction.  I love Apple products, but I don't defend a company blindly like many of the sheep on here do.  <Cue sheep who get offended by the word "sheep" or "fanboy">  Hey, if the shoe fits...

  • MacBook Pro fails to earn Consumer Reports recommendation for first time

I'm loving my new 2016 tMBP 13".  Sorry.  I don't think this is a failure aside from those that want to find fault in it.  I just opened it today at about 2:30 PM and have been setting it up and haven't plugged it in for long (just long enough to check out the USB-C power cord.  It's now 11 PM at night and the battery isn't dead yet.  I also had to transfer 65 GB of data from iCloud and install apps and of course Spotlight was running too.  I've been doing some compiling in Xcode and terminal too so not light work, but not video encoding either.  Now I haven't been using it continuously that whole time, but so far it's holding it's own.  I want to run the battery down and then charge it fully (it had about 88% charge new) and then give it a fair battery life test.
I'm glad for you. Unfortunately too many instances of battery and graphics issues for me to take the plunge right now. Many users, including CR are reporting erratic battery life.  That combined with the new info from the Bloomberg article tells me Gen 2 of this new lineup should be much improved.

I am glad to see Consumer Reports and the Bloomberg report confirming what many people already knew.  Also glad to see most people on this thread agree that Apple needs to do better.  I love Apple, but there is nothing wrong with demanding more from a company that demands more from its consumers (see PRICE).  The latest MBP release is a failure. I don't care what Apple *claims* its sales to be. When have you seen up to $350 off new models so soon in to their lifespan??  Apple may be trying to play it cool in public but I bet heads are rolling behind closed doors.  I just hope my 2010 15" MBP with upgraded SSD and 8GB ram can hold out another year+ until the next release.

  • Reported 2016 MacBook Pro graphics issues likely caused by third-party software [u]

My 2010 15" MBP intermittently had this problem for years. I had to live with it like that until finally the motherboard needed to be replaced. I was having constant kernel panics related to the same graphics issue.  It was a little known issue that even Genius Bar employees did not know about. I found it hidden in apple support pages, which was fortunate because the cost to repair was free instead of the ~$400 it would have been. Soon after mine was repaired, they took the article off their website and that was that.

I need a new laptop but I don't trust these new MBPs yet. What is it with Apple and graphics issues?? Why can't they ever seem to get it right when it comes to the gpu?
