  • Which to buy - Apple Smart Keyboard Folio vs Logitech Slim Folio Pro

Shouldn't it also be worth mentioning that the smart connector can be a superior way to connect than Bluetooth? I use a Bluetooth keyboard and am constantly annoyed that when I need to enter text, I do not get the on-screen keyboard because my BT keyboard is still connected because I've forgotten to turn it off. Often it's across the room and I have to get up to turn it off, or shut off Bluetooth on my iPad.

With a smart connector, as soon as I go back into tablet mode, I don't have to worry about whether-or-not I have remembered to turn off my keyboard. I know it sounds like a minor gripe, but it's annoying enough that it's had me wondering if Apple's keyboard is right for me :)

The shocking part of this article for me is that people still buy Motorola phones.
My previous work phone was a Moto X and it was awful. Decent screen and ergonomics, but the battery (which was not user-replaceable) gave out after less than two years and, much like most Android devices, it received a singular major Android update before it became obsoleted. The replacement is a low-end Galaxy (J3). It feels like a cheap piece of crap and also received only one major update before becoming obsolete. Its battery life is excellent, however, and the battery is easy to replace.

Also, Android sucks. Putting widgets on the home screen is brilliant and I wish this were possible with iOS. However, in every other way it just feels like a cheap knockoff to me.

  • Comparing Apple News+ head-to-head, versus Amazon Kindle Magazines

What about PressReader - it’s been an iOS app for like forever and has magazines and newspapers - the largest selection of all I’ve found (and available in all countries).

I subscribe to HBR, WSJ and the UK edition of FT via kindle and read it on my kindle or the iPad or iPhone app.  I find the ‘text’ mode much better for reading, though I like the option of having the full ‘PDF’ of the HBR on the iPad. But if I’m on the subway - reading the WSJ one handed in the kindle is very easy.

And best of all for me - all these are downloaded to my device and stay there as long as I want them regardless
of if I’m on the subway with no cell reception or on a plane or at home. I can make clippings of articles and I can save the whole magazine or newspaper off to my Mac or a usb.

I would have have liked it if your article explained better about how Apple News+ does those things.  Does it work without cell reception?   Do you get the same magazines and newspapers if you subscribe for UK or OZ, or is it a different selection?  Can you clip articles?  Can you save a magazine to USB?
PressReader is one of the best readers I've found, particularly for newspapers. I used to subscribe to the NYT and it was a brilliant way to read it. Compare that to other newspapers (such as my local Seattle Times and others I've read) that use Olive Reader which is absolutely, positively dreadful. That said, it's a tool that allows you to consume individual subscriptions rather than a bundle such as News+.

News+ does allow you to download issues to your device just as Texture did before it. I loaded up my iPad with a dozen or so magazines for my last cross country flight and happily caught up on National Geographic and Sunset at 35,000 feet.

  • iMac, iMac 4k, iMac 5k, or iMac Pro - which iMac should you buy?

Looking into the future which in the computer world you try to do with some success. I would stay away from HD's and drop the extra money on a 2TB SSD and get as much RAM as you can afford and what the hardware can hold.
I think that for a desktop machine, a 1TB SSD is plenty. I bought a maxed-out 5k iMac last year and that's the storage I opted for. I wanted enough to hold my OS, a couple of VMs, and my primary apps. For anything else I can hang external storage and pay less for it. For the price of going from that 1TB SSD to an internal 2TB SSD I could have added at least 2TB of external SSD storage and it would be plenty fast. For data (and backups), I have a Synology with four 8TB drives. Over a wired gigabit connection, access is plenty fast.

For a laptop, however, I would agree that a 2TB drive would be better over the life of the machine. You don't want external drives dangling off a portable machine.

  • iWork app updates coming with improved Apple Pencil support and new iOS features

Keep Keynote, kill the other two tbh.  Especially Numbers, it's awful.
I disagree. Pages is far superior to Word in so many respects, especially when it comes to page layout. It's absolutely no replacement for InDesign, but for the sorts of documents I write, using Word is like stepping back to 1998. As for Numbers, Excel still beats it in terms of crunching data, however Numbers makes for much better looking reports and graphs. Having independent sheets and charts on a page with absolute control of the placement of both is great.

Add to that the superiority of Keynote over PowerPoint and I generally feel that using MS Office is akin to tying my hands behind my back and typing with my nose. Yes, Office integrates better with other apps and has support for live data, but its ability to make good looking documents and presentations is light years behind iWork.
