An accident would be a vehicle slipping on oil or black ice (assuming the driver was driving appropriately) - ie generally unavoidable at the time and no one is at fault. 

A collision or crash is something preventable. For example, by a human driver driving at the correct speed for the circumstances, or not checking their phone, or not driving tired or drunk. Or by a driving software leaving sufficient braking distance, or recognising and knowing how to respond to a potential hazard. Or by hardware being properly checked and serviced. Etc.
