  • China increases power cuts, 'scared' suppliers look to leave country

    DAalseth said:
On the business report on CBC Vancouver a couple of days ago the reporter was asked about these power outages. He said that yes it was due to higher coal prices but the reason coal was more expensive was the interesting part. World coal prices are low, but China got a huge portion of its coal from Australia. China is annoyed with Australia and has stopped buying their coal. But there isn’t enough surplus coal or natural gas on the world market to make up the difference. At root this isn’t a structural problem, or due trying to move to a low carbon economy, something that has been blamed in some reports. At root it’s the Chinese government, meaning Xi, has gotten their nose out of joint at Australia, and the people are paying for it.
    Exactly.

  • Jony Ive remembers, reflects on his relationship with Steve Jobs

I can imagine the void that losing someone of Steve Jobs calibre and presence would leave. Interesting to have some insight into Ive's feelings for his boss. My father passed away the same year and I often wonder what he would make of events since. I believe that Steve would be pleased with Tim Cook's custodianship of his legacy and the progress made by Apple in the intervening years.

  • Apple Watch lead Kevin Lynch reportedly transferred to 'Apple Car' team

At the time of this writing, it is early in the day in the US. Where I live, it is supper time - yes, I live in a future that none of you have yet experienced. I am therefore well qualified to let you in on Apple's plans for the future because I live there...

Apple's car is actually an autonomous 'flying' car. Actually, 'flying' is a misnomer as lifting surfaces are not employed. Apple has been testing the technology for about 73 years, longer than the company has existed because they sent test articles back to 1947 for trials to avoid modern technology spying on activities - Apple can do that now (in the future). They lost a couple of units but still have a laugh over the way their crash test dummies were received in the 1940's. Apparently, the navy has captured some data on recent tests but Apple is completely un-phased by this, knowing that any investigation and resulting in-depth report on sightings were (looking back from the future - they can do that too), a whitewash. So there you have it. Only the faithful will see this post and so Apple's secret was safe (in the future they know this). In fact, Kevin authorised this release.

Oh, you want proof that this news is genuine? Okay then, check on Apple's valuation in the future... yes, makes $2.5T look like pocket change eh!

  • Sketchy rumor claims Samsung courting former Apple engineers for custom chip project

Hope as, Steve once said, Apple patented the hell out of them. At least make them work for it.
This is Samsung! Copy and implement first and then defend.

many of the best new macOS Monterey features will only work on Apple Silicon. And so they should.

Planned obsolescence much? Indeed that's the case as will be clear from the breakdown below.

Get over it. Like others, I have a 13 year old iMac sitting right next to an M1 iMac and it is looking great and performing superbly.
