    Technically speaking, that didn't happen.  Apple stopped advertising the feature before it started manufacturing the new models with the feature disabled - notably in software, so it can be re-enabled in the future.  And the models that were sold with the feature enabled continue to work just fine.  There was also widespread press coverage.  I doubt there were very many people who unknowingly had that rug pulled out from under them.

    Still, I agree that this was a big overreach by Masimo, which has hurt them way more than it hurt Apple.  As an owner of a post-ban Ultra 2, I'm also eagerly awaiting the restoration of the O2 sensor.  (Though really just as yet-another-vital for it to measure, I don't really have any known issues around it.)

    Discrimination (to use the term broadly) is only actually illegal for a very few, very specific things.  Location is not one of them.

    "Problems for server farms and accessory makers"??  The old Mac Mini was ~85in^3 and the new one is only 50in^3.  That's a *HUGE* improvement for rack mount solutions.  But oh noes!  I might have to buy a new $500 mounting kit to house my $10,000 worth of Mac Minis!

    And as for accessory makers, incompatibility with existing accessories is a good thing for them too.  People who upgrade will have to buy new accessories instead of keeping what they have.

    It's kinda bad for consumers, but a lot of people who had such accessories might not even need them any more now that Apple finally seems to be coming to their senses and putting ports on the front of some Macs.  And some of them might appreciate the smaller size, as well.

  • Apple's Magic Mouse charging port design has never been a big deal

    Yeah, it doesn't matter at all when you're gaming - especially in a multi-player game, and your mouse dies unexpectedly.  The 39 other people in your raid will be happy to wait while you get a coffee after the wipe you caused...

    The port on the bottom has always been a dumb idea.  Even if they're hell-bent on aesthetics over usability, it looks ridiculous flipped upside down with a cable sticking out of the bottom.  And it's especially unnecessary in the era of wireless charging where you could put a charger in the mousepad itself.  At least include some sort of charging stand to keep it topped off when you're not using it.

    I'd love to see the continuous monitors integrate better with Apple Health, especially the new OTC devices.  Abbott's Lingo will import data from Apple Health, but won't send data the other way.
