  • Jony Ive's exit from Apple caused by company culture changes and growing frustration

    flydog said:
That's pretty much as expected. Cooks is an accountant at best who has absolutely no understanding how to keep Apple innovating. He leeched off the state of Apple when he'd taken over and admittedly was an effective Chief Excel Operator indeed.
But he failed giving Apple a future and I almost expect the next CEO toy (something with AR) is going to be the same thing as the 'Damn scribble toy' (S. Jobs) that failed to deliver a quality product from that guy that used to sell 'sugar water' (S.J. again).
History is repeating itself: The last round John Scully managed to grow the Macintosh after Steve left and essentially proved Apple is no longer able to develop a good product (case in point the embarrassing joke that was the Newton).
Now Tim Cook took over (again from SJ) and is executing well on all the (many) things Steve started, but I'm afraid he will fail delivering a quality AR Thingamagick (and the 'old' Apple stuff also starts to crumble in oh so many places).
I think  Peak Apple is already behind us.
Yeah what a shit job he’s doing. Stock is up 1,000% since he too over, while the rest of the market is up 300%. Time to fire that clown.
What hard make or break decision has Tim Cook had to make at Apple since becoming CEO?
Wouldn't the development of Apple Silicon and the switch from Intel qualify?

  • Apple looks to move away from China for its new products, says Kuo

    JWSC said:
Assuming this is true, the recent Shanghai lockdowns have provided Apple with a politically acceptable excuse (from a CCP perspective) for Apple to move a large percentage of its supply chain outside China.  Apple can point to 'supply chain instability' as a business reason, rather than the more concerning aspect of being reliant on business entities within a totalitarian regime that thinks little of human rights.  Apple doesn't want to talk about that with China for fear that it would put them in bad standing with CCP officials.  But the supply chain excuse can be viewed as non-political.
As defined by western culture. China fighting hard to combat covid is not regarded as human rights by western culture. The western culture regards freedom far supersedes human life. Because Christianity thinks our life is given by God. Death is not regarded termination of life.
I don't think the OP is referring to combating COVID when they wrote of human rights.  Perhaps they were referring to the slavery and the genocide - the care for the Uyghurs.  There will surely be other supply chain disruptions such as when China decides to conduct a "special operation" in the "renegade province."

  • Apple Store opening in Wuhan teased with wallpaper release

This comment thread will go downhill quickly.
It does look like the employees can walk over to the wet market to grab lunch.

The people of Wuhan certainly are victims too but why do we have to pretend like there’s nothing unusual about an Apple Store opening there?

  • Koch Group founders, Roblox, and more back Apple in 'Fortnite' antitrust case

Roblox hypocrisy. They make all their money from Robux, a currency parents buy on their website, and they don’t require to split that with Apple.
Has not always been the case that companies could keep everything by handling payments through their own websites?   That's not preferential treatment.

  • Apple TV+ frustrates producers as team is 'stretched thin'

I don't know much about the entertainment business, but just possibly Apple doesn't want to do it the way things have always been done in that business.  If that means stretching payment terms or not having a casting couch, good for Apple.  If other parties don't want to play ball, that's up to them.

Not all the Apple TV content is my "cup of tea."  Some of it is a bit boring.  However, a surprising (to me) bunch of Apple TV shows and movies are really awesome.  I don't have to love it all to think it's overall great.  So far, the Apple TV people are doing a great job.  I'm really looking forward to the second season of Tehran and the final season of Ted Lasso can't come soon enough.
