Before writing your Lightning connector off as being bad, check to make sure it’s not full of compressed pocket lint.
I had one that was seriously intermittent - I had to push the Lightning connector “just so” to get it to charge. I put on a loupe, got a sewing needle, and went to work, gently scratching away at the bottom of the Lightning socket’s “well”. It took me about 5 minutes of careful work to dig out all the crud. It reminded me of belly-button lint.
Once I got it all cleaned out the connector worked good-as-new.
(Then I ran over the iPhone with a 60” lawn mower. The phone still works but has a layer of its back casing missing and a damaged camera lens. Looks like The Terminator now.)November 2017-
zoetmbThanks. Yeah, I checked that. I blew it out with compressed air. It's definitely wearing out as it's done before with earlier iPhones. And I'm starting to have problems with the mini-phone jack as well. IMO, both jacks should have been tested to 5000 insertions.
