The only reason I can think of that your Mac wouldn't connect is if the ISP is looking for a specific MAC address. You say it's cable? Is there a router? Wired or wireless? When you plug in and go to http://192.168.100.1 do you see the cable modem page? -

On my linksys, it's http://192.168.0.100. I don't remember what the default is, but the info sheet that comes with the router will tell you otherwise you can get it from Linksys' website. -
