I just tried out the Apple store online, and they gave 1-2 day (and even "same day") shipping times for most of these products (iMac 17". all but CDRW iMac 15", 1 Ghz DP).

Where did you find that list?

Boy, I hope you are right, as I REALLY want a new iMac...

Interesting. I noticed that looprumors listed some reasonable (but unexciting) specs for the upcoming iMacs. Sounds like some minor speed bumps are due soon.

A friend of mine placed an order for a dual 1.25 ghz tower about 2 weeks before Macworld.

It said same day shipping, however he received a notice of a shipping delay. Well that day came and went and yet another shipping delay notice. All the while, the Apple Store online still said same day shipping.

Well as of Macworld, he called and was notified of another delay so he canceled his order.

He figured that he may as well wait a few more weeks to see if something new was coming.

If I was Apple I would have a problem selling PMacs with processors in them of which the supplier Motorola says that it is not recommended to buy them. Motorola is indeed dumping these chips. According to Macbidouille they will be exchanged for MPC 7455A (according to them the present 1,25) or something new.I imagine that a new MOT processor is on the way shortly.

i think i should point out that emagic (now wholly owned by apple) just announced logic platinum 6 for os 9 and X, shipping next month (y'know, in around 3-5 weeks). and if you look at the screenshots, and functionality, it's beginning to be eerily reminiscent of several other high-end software apps apple has control of.

now wouldn't it be great if, say, there were some kick-ass rigs released at, oh i don't know, about the same time????

To see Pim_Fortuyn's numbers with your own eyes, go <a href="http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC7455&nodeId=018rH3bTdG865 3#orderables" target="_blank">here</a>.

The life cycle description code is (5)NOT RECOMMENDED(DECLINING) Motorola explains that "Capacity beginning to decline. Orders and shipments permitted. Product not recommended for new designs."

So Motorola has signalled to the world that the 7455 is through. Hmmmmmm.

Hey, its Germany that does not want to join, not France.

Doesn´t matter anyway, Europe is far away (and Iraq even further). So the US could just nuke them, or even better, nuke both (Iraq and Europe) to end the discussion. And once they are at it, they should not forget about Russia. And China. And North-Korea. And ... ooops

    MacBidouille:

    - Motorola will cease producing current G4- Lionel - 20:18:51

Like always, I went to check up the site of Motorola. On the G4 page listing I ran into some capital information. Officially, only the processors from 933 MHz to 1Ghz are still listed (the 1,25 were never listed, but they are in fact 7455A) VoilÃ*, this explains why the currently delivered BiPro 867 Machines in fact are underclocked 933 or 1Ghz chips. Then, and this is even more interesting, all the processors of the 7455 series are sold as/under "NOT RECOMMENDED (DECLINING)", which in internal jargon means that manufacture is ceasing. The time of the 7455 is thus over/ended.

Will future production be transferred towards 7455A, which exceeds 1,2Ghz at entry level or towards another chip that we do not know of yet?

PS: you will note that all the machines equipped with G4 are at present out-of-stock (as for shipping) at APPLE!

Re S: We do not get overly exited because the small 12" Powerbook G4 still has a 867Mhz G4 in it. It will be probably Tom Thumb of low this new range.

A german nick and dutch to boot, hehe. Why letting yourself provoke by a simple nick - as you put it, Pim is dead and buried in Toscana (and from what I've heared his party isn't doing as well either). Heck, Haider is still alive, yet I do not complain (and I'm a foreigner!). But then, his party is a mess right now, as well.

You are right. I'm erasing that post. It's just causing trouble, and that's just making things worse.

EDIT: Actually, I'm a foreigner too, in that I'm not Dutch, have never been, and will, most likely, never be. Dutch is an official language outside of Holland too, you know.

So what does this mean for Apple? Would this explain why current PowerBooks are not being shipped yet? As well as why they have not updated the 15" model? Maybe why they have not updated the iMac too? All cause apple is waiting for the new Moto chip?...

Dang it. I can't find Motorola's press release saying that high performance processors would be shipped by the end of the year(re: 2002).

If I remember correctly it was related to the announcement of their joint venture w/ ST Microelectronics and Phillips, or maybe with the transfer of some production to facilities in Malaysia.

    Could be related??????

I just checked the MPC7441 MPC7451 MPC7445 and they all seem to be catagory 1 through 3. Curious that just the MPC7455 has been listed in the catagory 5 - "NOT RECOMMENDED(DECLINING)(5)"

mmmm! only the high end cpu is a 5.

Excellent find. Do you know how long they have been listed as " NOT RECOMMENDED(DECLINING)(5)"? I could have sworn that just a few days ago they weren't, but then agian I didn't look that closely.

I hope this means what I think it means.

Oh and by the way, I hope you don't mind but I posted the Motorola link over @ ArsTechnica.
