Boobies!

This reminds me of a qoute:
Quote:

"You know, Fox turned into a hard-core sex channel so gradually, I didn't even notice." -Marge Simpson

Somehow it's not as funny when it's true. Fox surprised me again last night. I was watching Arrested Development and... BAM! A full 2 seconds of some chick's uncensored jugs. (I don't talk like this in real life) I'm all for edgy entertainment, but come on Fox, grow up! Sex is not the only way to boost ratings. Now off to watch The simple life... There is a pornstar in that one, right?

Quote:

"When will the government step in and tell us what we can and cannot watch?" -Homer Simpson

\ Do you think Fox crossed the line this time?

PS: I have no intention to see "Simple". I was just pulling you leg.

I think its about time, that TV was able to start offering programming to its viewers, that it wants to see(whether that be boobies as you so aptly put it or endless episodes of Barnie.) as long as it is noted beforehand, and its shown at a reasonable time..

I mean, I am sick of censors telling me that they cant allow the word bitch, shit, etc.. , but then they allow Summer's Eve to advertise Douche products at dinner time.

Let the shows have whatever they want in it.. if thats what viewers want to see, who cares?

If its offensive to you, then dont watch it.

I think the easy fix for everything would be to allow anything, as long as its clearly labled (much better rating system) that can be integrated with TVs and cable boxes, to block that particular type of programming if one so desires.

This would be the best of both worlds, as parents could lock down certain show types that are labled with things that they object to, and I can watch shows, or movies that aren't edited to oblivion, just for the sake of some moral idiot who thinks that the word ass is offensive.

    Bah!

Didn't that same episode of Arrested Development have one of the characters ask about the dinner for the mother saying "What the f--k!" And that word was bleeped out?

I was a bit surprised that the script would be written to keep the word, as long as it was bleeped. FOX is definitely trying to push an envelope in broadcasting, probably because of all the stuff cable outlets like HBO are already getting away with, and seeing who complains.

If no one does, expect to see (and hear) more.

For a good time, those of you near the Canadian border, try tuning into any Canadian television channel, especially around Toronto. There is nothing they won't put on the air. Hell, the CTV network broadcasts The Sopranos uncut - with a warning at the end of each commercial break just before the show starts again. (Heh, that reminds me of the Mad TV skit about the Sopranos network TV premiere, and it was all butchered up). CTV has even shown the Osbournes without the bleeping - and MTV is a cable channel.

Brad- So sorry. I thought for sure I clicked "GD". I even double-checked and I still wound up here.

I guess I was surprised most of all. There was no warning whatsoever. Nothing after the commercial break.

I believe you can have a good TV show without stooping to appeal to someone's baser instincts. Or at least add "class" to it. By that I mean make your audience think to get the joke. One of the great things I like about the Simpsons it that the whole family can watch it. Kids will laugh at simple jokes and parents will laugh at other jokes kids won't understand. I think that is also one of the reasons Family Guy survived as long as it did.

    Boobs != Sex.

However, boobs are often portrayed in a sexual manner.

More power to them, I say. I rarely watch TV but maybe I'll watch a bit more Fox now...

Seriously though, I think it's pretty stupid that even showing breasts for a short amount of time in a non-sexual context is grounds for a huge controversy, and yet there's a huge amount of violence on TV that is sometimes questioned but doesn't seem nearly as controversial per second/minute of airtime. I mean, what is seeing a little bit of a woman's boob going to do to a kid? Scar them for life? But seeing murders and gang violence won't, oh no. F*cked up sense of priorities in this country. Maybe I should move to europe where this stuff is acceptable.

What I meant is that this *belongs* in AppleOutsider. I moved it here. This is more a social/political thread, not a technology thread. General Discussion is where you post about the tech industry.

Somehow I don't think "more boobies on TV" fits the description of "General tech discussion, including purchasing advice and industry trends".

actually the iMac G5 case design is shaped like breasts (15" 1.6 GHz is the natalie portman model, 17" 1.8 GHz is the Pamela Anderson model and the 20" 2.0 GHz is the Dom Deluise model)

    moving back to GD....

They are only boobs.... have you never seen any before? It's amazing that the US is still so repressed. Why is it that there are breasts displayed on television and covers of magazines all over Europe with no problem.

    Boobs?

Lighten up, dude. If we can get boobs on primetime TV, that's a step in the right direction. I'm not a big fan of censorship, and I don't think there's anything wrong with a kid seeing a nice pair on TV. It's certainly preferable in my opinion for a kid to see some boobs than for a kid to get the idea that banning smoking in bars is the right thing to do, and there are plenty of non-censored avenues that promote that ideal.

They were in the "Movie" the two cousins were watching.

To be honest, I thought there would be more of an uproar about this. Most of you seem to have a "Meh... so what" attitude about this (absolutely no offense intended) which makes me realize I was brought up in a pretty strict household with emphasis on different values.

How's that for opening my eyes to see the would in a different light.

the AI canadian contingent can back me up on this, but censorship for things such as boobies and the f word are much more lax up there, and it didn't seem to make that country fall apart (the crap dollar did that all on its own).

p.s. murbot, please don't kick my ass for that comment if we ever meet.

The FCC has apparently OK'd the limited use of "fu ck" on network TV. Conditionally it cannot be used to describe the sexual act, but it can be used as a curse word.
  • Reply 18 of 51
huh are you sure Eugene... a friend of mine who is a program director said everytime they cuss *without censorship* they have to pay 2,000 or something and 10,000+ if its around prime time. He said technically you have to bleep it out, and blur their mouth. AND yeah it can only be used as a curse word, even when censored and not about sexual act. But still stations screw up all the time.
