  • Apple says Spotify 'wants all the benefits of a free app without being free'

To be fair, Spotify has little choice but to use the App Store, it's not as if you can distribute iOS apps to consumers in any other way. Apple would have a point if Spotify could just put the IPA up on their website for users to download, but they can't.
To be fair, Spotify has the choice to not use the App Store. Apple is only about 20% of the smartphone world thus Spotify is complaining about the cost of doing business with a subset of that user base. I suspect that the problem is with the revenue generated by the small subset of users is far greater than the larger set of non-Apple users. If Spotify raised the cost of their services to cover Apple’s “Tax” and offered such a compelling service that the users would gladly pay the cost or change their phones to non-Apple phones, then the problem would be solved. From what I have read, Spotify users prefer the service over Apple Music. I have no firsthand knowledge of Spotify service. So, I suspect that the preference doesn’t extend to relinquishing an iPhone for the difference in cost. It seems to me that Spotify is complaining that it costs too much to have customers that are willing to pay.

    August Smart Lock Pro
The Smart Lock is, in a nutshell, damn convenient. Mostly because of its geofencing features, which let you automatically unlock when your iPhone is within range, and lock again when you leave home. In our experience it's been extremely reliable, and if you're worried you can also configure a timed auto-lock window as backup.
Key question. Do the geofencing features allow for more than one person/phone to lock and unlock?
Yes, I have it and my wife and I can both operate the lock from our iPhones or Watches.

  • Apple's 2020 iPhones expected to use 5nm 'A14' TSMC chips

I don’t understand why people in 2019 are buying $1100 iPhone XS Maxes ,where a larger iPad 10’ costs only $330.
Can people in the comment section help me understand?
I am 78 years old and my eyes and hands have difficulty with smaller screens that are harder to read and compressing icons into smaller space.

I agree with Melgross. My Series 0 was purchased in the black stainless with the black bracelet and that was my only band. When I recently upgraded to my Series 4 the bracelet went on immediately. It does not show any wear.

Could it be that the cellular companies no longer offer a discounted price for the phone?  In the old days I could get a new iPhone every two years for $200.  Now I have to pay full price.  Makes me keep my iPhone longer.  They had to see that coming?
You never paid $200, you paid full price spread out over 24 months rolled into your plan. You can do the exact same thing now — I put down about 1/3 of my iPhone X and am paying the rest off interest free over 24 months on T-Mobile. It's the exact same thing.
Not the same thing in some circumstances. If you upgraded every two years, then yes, but if you did not upgrade you continued to make payments on a phone you had already paid for.
