  • Samsung confirms terrible earnings for the holiday quarter, and it will only get worse

    MacPro said:
And are we still expecting Apple to report the second highest earnings of any quarter in February?
And did we pay the highest prices for products? Unsustainable, especially in their quest for 'developing' markets.

  • Apple's earnings warning indicates trouble in China, but everyone should calm down

You know, I don't really care how much Apple stock is worth. I own zero shares. I care about quality devices, which my XS Watch 4 are (returned Mini, not so much). However, this article sounds quite similar to reporting the 2016 elections 'Ha, never happen' 'No reason to worry' 'Everything is under control' We all know how that ended...

  • Review: 802.11ac Synology RT2600ac router is the best AirPort replacement we've found yet

While I had this unit, it performed well. Great throughput on WiFi (both bands), excellent reporting is available, easy enough to configure the options that are available.

If you need more than what comes in the box, like port forwarding IPV6, iptables type routing are a couple that come to mind, you are out of luck.

Support was quick, but not really useful. Synology responded quickly but could not solve problems at the time. They would have you enable remote access to the router then someone would login and do 'things' at a later time, maybe days later.

In all, I had a flaky LAN port and with the other things I need but weren't available, I returned it and stayed with a unit that had Asuswrt-Merlin available, an ASUS 86U, and haven't looked back.

  • Facebook enabled Apple devices to obfuscate data sharing from users, report says [u]

The Internet is not run for free folks. People are gonna make their money or they will fold their tents. I kinda enjoy the Internet, hope to keep it alive. The kind of crap FB and Google do, however, need to be outlawed. Not 'Opt-in', no 'I understand' buttons, plain and simple outlawed. I think a simple rule of a plain text cookie belonging to a single identifiable entity with little personal identifying info should be enough to make sure I get ads for computing devices and not flower arranging. I mean, how did these companies get the power to do all this for profit when there was such an uproar over the NSA doing less for national security?

  • Justice and governance can be blind, but willful tech ignorance by them is hurting us

Term limits would be a great thing. At least then you'd not have an 80 year old Speaker of the House and equally old Senate Majority Leader. Along with the rest of the geriatric unit that is the Congress. No idea why term limits have been ruled unconstitutional for Congress while the President is term limited. Not an ageist, I just think they'd be happier out shopping, whittling, annoying others with photos of their grandkids...
