Actually it's the same battery just a more efficient processor.

I'm wondering where the heck you people work if you're unable to plug in your iPhone while at work or in the car or on the train (they have AC plugs after all). I just very rarely find myself in a place where I can't plug in my phone and, honestly, how hard is it to take a USB->iPod cable to work and leave it there so you can charge while sitting at your desk?

iDisk access on the iPhone may be coming soon but this change isn?t directly connected to it. The iDisk colour change mirrors the update they did last week in Snow Leopard build 10a394. I?d wager that 10.5.8 will also get the new colour.

Unless you?ve done text-to-speech of certain AI commenters posts it sounds like you have a faulty device. Call or take it into a store for a replacement or repair.

That would be nice. Stocks, too. I can think of a lot of nice voice commands that would be nice to have. Is that API open to developers?

Apple let me know when it understands UK farmer dialect.

It would be nice if you could access a list of the commands to append your particular voice to each command. That would go a long way to making it very useful for a large number of people.

This is not normal! Document your results based on Apple?s battery stats to see how yours compares. I?m not saying this is happening with your phone as there will be issues with any CE, but I have seen that the usefulness of the iPhone has made people use it more than they think they do which is using the battery far faster than they expect.

Pet peeve: Why hasn?t Apple ever including the GPS with their own weather app. I use Weather Bug since it will auto-locate where I am. Also, Dashbaord widgets, which are very similar in look to the Stock and Weather apps on the iPhone, need some TLC. They are so limited in comparison, even on Snow Leopard. Has Apple given up on Dashboard?

I?ve never thought of that before but that would be nice. With my case on it?s quite hard to see what mode it?s in. Also, I?d like to have an absolute silent mode. last week I was in the movies, I had put my phone on silent but had forgotten that the alarm was set. Luckily the alarm went off during the previews. I turned my phone completely off at that point, but that isn?t always an option for everyone in every situation. Having different profiles would be very nice indeed.

The system is more efficient but the battery is also bigger.

"The battery is identified as a 4.51 Watt-hours, or 1219 mAh, which is about 6% larger than the iPhone 3G's battery."
PS: Has anyone tried one of those high 1600 mAh, after market batteries for the iPhone 3G? The battery is still good, it is a year old and therefore doesn’t hold a charge like it originally did.

    Actually, no.

The 3GS has a 1219mAh battery as opposed to the old 1150mAh battery in the 3G. This was documented in a recent physical teardown of the 3GS:

Yes, and a way to schedule them would be great too. I use my iPhone as an alarm clock. Every night I have to turn down my volume and turn off vibrate. And every morning I have to remember to turn up the volume and turn on vibrate. It would be awesome if I could schedule that to happen every weekday between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am.

Turn on the % setting. You may think you're starting at 100% when it may be lower.

Mine has NO distortion so you may want to look into that.....

This update looks good. Bit shocked apple is bringing a full 3.1 instead minor 3.0.1 bug fix update....

Any ideas when will it be coming?

    Ciao

v3.0 is pretty solid as it is, especially in comparison to v2.0, so there is no immediate rush for any major bugs that are affecting the user experience, at least as far as I can tell. This means that Apple may just release a bunch of 3.1 Betas with new speed and minor feature upgrades for another month or so, or they may release it this week if they find that the current Beta has no real issues and a lot of good updates.

Here is last year’s release cycle. V2.0 dropped on July 11th with all these new features. Then on August 4 (24 days later) v2.0.1 added these changes…
    • Release Focusing on speed and bug fixes within the Operating System

    • Performance and Stability of Contacts and Calendar applications dramatically improved

    • Performance while flipping to landscape mode in Safari improved

    • Performance in Mail app improved

    • Release improves application crash rates

    • Keyboard responsiveness improved

On August 18 (14 days later) v2.0.2 added these changes…
    • Bug fixes

    • Improved communication with 3G networks

    • Transition from music list to Cover Flow has changed

    • Tilt to left from landscape no longer switch to portrait when watching video, fixes 2.0 bug

    • The "Update All" button in the App Store's update tab has been removed

It wasn’t until September 9th (60 days since v2.0) that v2.1 dropped with a huge list of changes. ( I think Safari stopped crashing for me at v2.2)

We may have to wait until after the official v3.1 release before we know for sure how much has been changed, but so far this update is already bringing about some pretty substantial modifications that warrant the x.1 change.
    • Faster boot up time and various speed improvements

    • provides vibration feedback when home screen icons jiggle to indicate they're ready to be moved or rearranged.

    • Trimming video clips on the iPhone 3GS now offers the ability to save the edited version as a copy rather than simply overwriting the original file

    • Some reports of MMS being activated, but it seems to stall before actually being sent out over AT&T's network

    • Safari now has a toggle for "Fraud Protection" under its Settings pane

    • Bulgarian keyboard is in the BDS layout, not QWERTY layout

    • On iPod Touch 2G the Voice Memos app now successfully records audio if you plug your microphone after you have started the application

    • Voice Control over Bluetooth is now available, allowing users to Initiate calls and control music playback via Bluetooth headsets

    • It reportedly improves battery life on the iPhone 3G S

    • Updates the "Carrier" profile for U.S. users to "AT&T 4.2," as opposed to "AT&T 4.0,"

    • iTunes Store icons that rearrange themselves back to default after opening and closing the app

edit: I just tried the MMS that is now “active” on the iPhone under v3.1. In my test, everything works great except when it gets to AT&T and the iPhone doesn’t get the confirmation back that it was received (speculation). Since the carrier profiles have been updated and the option is now available I think that it’s safe to say AT&T is close to being MMS ready -AND- Apple will not drop v3.1 until they are ready. Which means this could simply be more v3.1 Beta releases for the rest of the Summer or mainly just sitting on this Beta for many, many weeks. I’ll try to test it every couple days to help judge any progress.

Thanks! I would rather get blasted for having 10.000 long posts that at least try to be thorough and informative than having 10,000 short, trollish complaints.

I think it means a fix for the bug in v3.0 that would put the wrong icon with an app on your Home Page(s).

Verizon isn?t allowing their customers under any contract to order the new BB Tour at all. That isn?t like the iPhone which simply required a $200 premium for those still in contracts, but Verizon?s current stance is that you aren?t allowed to have it at any price. And here I thought Verizon was pealing back their Gestapo ways.

Sometimes when placed in a dock, you get an ugly squawk out of the dock. I can't tell if this is specific to the 3GS or the 3.0 software (it happens with my old 3G, too, I think). Oddly, our digital answering machine, which doesn't talk to my iPhones at all, gives the most frequent squawks. I presume this means some kind of electronic interference. Switching to Airplane Mode does *not* help the problem.

Perhaps we're all carrying little broadcasting units for Steve's reality distortion field?

One more reason for me to switch to the iPhone?

But surely AT&T has their "gestapo" ways as well- take off your blind folders.

Short and to the point is always better than lengthy fanboyish diatribes.
