It's unlikely at this event, but I'm hoping there's a "one more thing" moment where they announce the new MacBook (Apple's new tablet Mac), called the MacBook Touch, presented as a full-featured, multi-touch, mini, mobile Mac. The announcement would include a visual of the final design (probably a graphic, not an actual physical prototype) and a spec breakdown, with availability in 1Q 2010. It'd be nice if SJ made the "one more thing" announcement, but that's dreaming.
Apple can do more than one thing at the same time and do it well.
They can? Then why has the OS , laptops and desktops all taken a second seat to the iPhone over the last 2 1/2 years? The laptops have finally come up to speed especiallly the 13 inch. The 15 inch finally received a matte screen. The iMac needs a major revamp and is stale. Leopard was released late. MobileMe was released as a disaster. Blu-ray is finally coming and with it hopefully HDMI.
And the AppleTV just sits, and sits, and sits and gets hotter and hotter.

That's exactly what I think and had said before. That way it will pre-empt any leaks over the next 6 months and start the hype engine big time.
Apple is selling more Macs than ever and is on track to do the same next quarter, and they continue to be #1 in PC satisfaction. It's just that their focus has shifted to notebooks, and rightly so, since desktops sales are way, way down in the entire industry.
single digit growth isn't growth. that's just keeping up with more people in the world. Growth is back in the 1990's when unit shipments were growing at double digit rates as everyone bought their first PC.
does anyone else think there might be a connection to the beatles big release on rock band? i guess i'm reaching but it's the same date and if they could license every beatle song for the ps3, xbox and wii, why not itunes? this would be a nice little surprise for itunes, cocktail, new ipods and whatever else apple has up their sleeve.
Nope, this keynote has been on Sept. 9th for going on three years in a row. Just a coincidence.
there are TV's coming out now or will come out soon with Netflix built into the TV. why bother with Apple TV?
Why do I need to buy a new TV?! Mine is working perfectly. I just want them to update AppleTV hardware and software. If they add what I want then I will buy it.

Buy a Blu-ray player with wirelss rentals or a Mac Mini instead which will do infinitely more.
This pretty much confirms for me that the rumours of an early Snow Leopard release are bogus. I see iTunes 9 (Possibly actually iTunes X, knowing Apple lately) being demoed here and launching alongside Snow Leopard in late September.
As I've mentioned in other threads and others have mentioned here, the date of 09/09/09 was intentionally picked. Apple Inc. and Apple Corp. will team up for the biggest music event of the year...
New iPods and iTunes to go with the newly remastered debut of the entire Beatles catalog for download.
I personally, can't wait. I'm looking for a 64GB Touch and I've already pre-ordered copies of the both the Stereo and Mono boxed sets along with the RockBand bundle...I might just take the rest of that week off...

Except for kitchen appliances, people tend to keep TVs longer than many other large devices in the home. Especially compared to other home theater devices. 6 years? This idea that people have that Apple should say screw you to the hundreds or TV sizes, types and manufacturers and just have a handful of sizes to fit all is silly.

You're not thinking things through. A Mac for your TV may suit your needs but it's far from being an ideal machine. I can make a Windows box that does Hulu, has a Blu-Ray drive, etc. For cheaper than a sand-alone Blu-Ray and a Mac Mini... and it will all do infinitely more than your solution, but that isn't user friendly. I don't want to use a keyboard and mouse to connect to my TV. I want it to be simple and easy to use, and I certainly don't need a computer that costs 3x as much as the AppleTV when it does what I need it to do

So then simply buy an iPod dock and connect it to your TV instead- It costs 5X less than an ATV and is 10x less aggravating.

And how exactly does the iPod pull media dynamically off my PC from iTunes, allow me to buy and rent TV and movies, have 802.11n and let me watch Hulu and YouTubes with my remote? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that others wantto limit themselves by going with super expensive or super cheap options and limit the features or create a lot of extra work to do something simple. The AppleTV is or the TV!

My HD TV is less than 2 years old and I am not planning on getting new one within the next 2 years. Right now AppleTV does what I want it to do except that I want two more things. The first is bigger HDD (500GB+) and the second is for it to be the center of my media completely independent from my MBP. When this happens I will buy one.

A bigger HDD would be great, but I'd also love to faster, better HW, but most importantly see an SDK for the AppleTV. There is an incredible amount of potential for such a device, like the XBox and PS3 are super expensive media extenders whose main focus is gaming, Apple could have a Wii-priced device whose main focus is intranet and internet media but a device that can also gaming and other apps.

Lol- I'm not the only one who doesn;t like the AppleTV. And as if the APpleTV is simple? Try converting a DVD to it or searching for your music using its remote. Can you play a game on it? Everything you mention -your iPod does just as well. Can you stream DVDs from your PC to the AppleTV? NO. Why would anyone want yet another machine that does little except act as basically an iTunes Digital Jukebox?

Of course you are not the only one who doesn't like it, but becaaebyou don't like a device and refuse to use it for the features it does offer and do well doesn't mean that everyone else wants to follow your convoluted and confusing setup for a streaming iTunes and iTunes Store content to their TV with ease.
I have a seldom used DVD player that I bought at least 5 years ago if I want to wath a DVD so saying that you have to convert it first is either you not thinking or you trying to lie to make your argument that a Mac Mini or iPod Classic is a better option than a device designed for my TV.
I also have a Wii, 360, PS3, TiVo HD, but the AppleTV is where I turn to rent movies, listen to Music and watch YouTube videos. Everything else you mentioned is just a messy solution. You don't like it because it doesn't have the option YOU want, but don't tell others that Reynard wrong or buying a product that suits there needs when it's clear that many do like it.
It's funny how your *better* options are a device that costs way more than a PS3 or a home made PC running WME and requires a keyboard and mouse -or- an iPod that require me to be up at the TV to make any changes and won't even dispaly anythingbout of the video out except for video. You have to be joking to say everyone should do those two things insteadol of getting a device designed to connect with a TV. youTube videos and iTunes rentals are crap quality anyway so enjoy them on your TV if you must. Blu-ray players have been selling very well this year in a bad economy so apparently many don't agree with you ilogical reasonings. AS for the music- if I didn't own an iPhone witht its remote app - I wouldn't bother searching and searching for my music by alphabetical listings- what a waste of my time.

I am not a spec sheet Nazi so having the quality possible isn't an issue for me. Blu-ray is much better quality but it's inconvenient and iTunes movies are god enough for me. Hey, I watch Hulu videos, too. Oh noes!!
