Wow, um, Apple doesn't have millions of employees.... In fact, no company does. Microsoft has less than 100,000, and they're one of the largest corporations in the world.

And second, if people are stealing OS X and running it on these little Atom-based netbooks, frankly, that's their loss. Their experience doesn't come close to what a real Macbook offers. I ought to know - I own both.

I have a hackintosh, but I also have a Mac. In fact, I would have never been able to install Snow Leopard on the Dell without first owning a Mac, so its practically a self-governing system. I happen to like the form factor of my Mini 10v, and how I can just throw it into the car and go without worrying about it. I use it for my work email (I still find it hilarious that Snow Leopard has better Exchange support than Windows), regular surfing and video. Then, when I want to get some serious work done like video editing and such, I head home and use my Mac there.

Its a great solution. If Apple offered me something with that form factor, better performance and a reasonable price tag, I'd grab it. Until then, I'm happy with my Dell.

I did Hackintosh b4 I went legit with an Alu Macbook. Its actually lots of fun and taught me more about how OS X works then I would have ever learned going legit from the get go. Also, it made me more comfortable in actually spending on an Apple.

Of course it didn't hurt I can also run Windows on my Macbook...

I don't buy much into this story. As I used AMD which doesn't work with OS X but skilled hackers have made kernels that allow you to run anyways. I had AMD, so different Hackintosh experience to the more straight forward Intel procesors. However, its getting easier all the time.

Now, I don't know if things have changed much but when I started out you downloaded a whole .iso or DVD that you would burn and install that way. As such I doubt anyone, and I know myself did not buy a legal copy of OS X. So beyond them fighting the EULA, I would say the vast majority are stealing OS X.

The only change I know of, is that the new fake EFI firmwares allow you to install from a unmodified disc provided you have Intel processor etc... So this new generation of Hackintosh might be encouraging people to actually go buy a disc (and thus giving Apple money) but it depends if they buy both Snow Leopard or just Leopard. And then of course it goes back down to if you feel a purchased products EULA is valid or not.

For me, its a mute point since I moved to Legit. Sure you spend more but you don't have to worry (well most of the time) about updates breaking your install or being future proof. The only reason is obviously Netbooks and those who want a cheaper Mac Pro.
