If they called it 'iSlate' I'll be happy enough. It will soon be part of the lexicon, along with magic slate, iPhone and iPod Touch.
People didn't like the iBook name being replaced by the Macbook or Powerbook replaced by MacBook Pro. Now. I think those names are cool. And I don't think about the 'fabled' PPC days at all...
I'm the owner of www.iguide.travel, which is currently the top "iGuide" in the world. iGuide is an interactive travel guide, and we're currently #1 in Google for the word iGuide, and get about 300,000 users a month.
What's my opinion on the name? It's not bad, though not great. I would of course love if Apple also used the name (my name!!) to help support my brand.
As to iguide.com, I tried to purchase the domain in January, but BuyDomains had asked for USD $250,000. It turns out iguide.com was actually sold for $100,000 this summer, to who knows who? And no, I could not afford that at that time either.
Anyhow, check out www.iguide.travel, its the real iGuide, and developed 100% on a MacBook.

LOL don't be surprised if a detachment of mercenary lawyers hired by Apple comes knocking on your door.
Mercanary Apple Lawyer: "You will no longer use the word "iGuide" in your travel site......UNDERSTAND?!"

With the good use to which you have put the name, you must have a strong claim to continued use. Do you have any trademarks? (Don't reply to this question.)
Great site by the way. Is it your goal to write first-hand of as many destinations as possible?

Relax, there will be no lawyers, the name iGuide is used by many companies already, including TV Guide, and even other travel guides. If anyone is to sue Apple, it might just be TV Guide.
The goal of the site, by the way, is to create the a great travel guide by mashing-up useful information and travel tools. I don't personally write any more content than say, Google or Apple would for their products.
Thanks for the support, and look forward to taking iGuide to the next level for you folks.
iGuide is doubtedly the new Apple app for navigation and maps, no? We've heard plenty about them gearing up to replace Google Maps integration on the iPhone and this is likely it. It will replace the Maps on the iPhone, or simply be the new service within it. It was also be on the Big iPhone Slate as that will likely have AGPS as well.
Comments
seriously, iSlate is a darn lousy name.
Apple iSlate. Apple iS late.
I very much agree!
My first thought was a guide for TV subscriptions, but your idea of their rumoured maps and nav app sounds much better.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Although, do they have to name EVERYTHING with an "i"? The i thing is getting kind of old now.
